    Indexing of a second drive

Hi, do you mean that when you created that image, you could index B: ?

#6: Ok, you said you had disk D:. The problem could be it's B:. which means a suggestion is to change it to D: If you search you'll find reports of that problem.
    E.g.
    search - Windows 8 isn't searching/indexing secondary hard drives? - Super User

I will quote a couple of extracts:
However, there's no guarantee this will fix the problem, as there are quite a few reports of problems with indexing non-system drives around - as @lx07 mentioned too.

and maybe of interest ref your observaton wrt Outlook (of which I know not):

  3. Wow lots of useful information there!
My indexing is rebuilding nicely although slowly, not because I found the problem but because I had an image to go back to. Thank God for images!
I have found out though that Outlook is only indexed when it is open! Close it down and indexing "is complete". Open it up and away it goes again. You can also check the indexing status in Outlook which is useful.
When it has finished I will do a final wrap up.
    cheers

  4. Indexing of a second drive

All sorted now and everything seems to be fully indexed.
    Notes to self:
    - Have a disk for the OS system and programs
    - Have a disk for all data
    - Do regular images of the OS drive, me weekly
    - Do regular backups of data drive, me daily
I learnt that Outlook only indexes when it is on.
    Thanks for the assistance.

Thanks for the info on Outlook- unexpected. One does have to wonder why searching the MS way should seem to be so arcane. Should be intuitive.

I have exactly the same problem as the OP. My comp. is new, bought last year (Lenovo) which came with W10. Anniversary update and other updates all installed. No fancy software or settings. I have tried every suggestion in this thread. Nothing works and many end up in irrelevant areas. Posters seem to be on another system from mine. For example, "...and follow the prompts" produces no relevant prompts whatever. This quite often happens on this forum. It would always be helpful if posters would continue the trail until the very end, and give very specific step-by-step instructions.

Perhaps the problem, with W10 being very configurable, (mine has not been configured or otherwise "messed about") people can have different results after following instructions.

Me, I have given up on this topic. Other things to do.

Hi, as this thread is marked Solved by the original poster, it would be best for you to start a new thread. That way more will read it.

When you do so, can you confirm that your problem is that you have specified folders to be indexed on your 2Tb drive, and that you can do that in Indexing Options in the Control Panel, but that when you add such locations, the number of indexed items does not increase (as shown in Indexing Options)?

If your symptom is different, please describe it as you see it in your new thread. If making reference to searching, please clearly discriminate between using file explorer and Cortana (screenshot if so). Thanks.

Note, as we are volunteers giving up our own personal time to help people, we tend to assume a certain level of familiarity or ability to find one's way round Windows or use a search engine, unless it becomes evident that that's not so, to save time. And remember, not all questions can necessarily be answered immediately and clearly, as often one has to start with questions, or pure guesswork, and most PCs are configured differently in some way.
