Windows 10: Indexing works but windows search doesnt work?

I recently purchased a new external hard drive and moved all of my files from my internal hard drive to the new one. I changed the old hard drives letter to something different and changed the new drives letter to the old one so I would be able to save files on the new one. I then removed the old hard drive from the computer leaving the new one in with the exact same files.


The problem is me searching for files. The first problem was when I used windows search for a file in the new hard drive, the file would pop up but the icon would be the "This PC" icon. Clicking on the file would open up the File Explorer to the "This PC" part instead of opening up the file itself.


I decided to check the indexing options and rebuilt the entire index to see if it would work. This only created another problem. The file would not pop up when I searched for it, but the index showed that it was complete with every file in the new drive.


The only way to find the file is to use the address, for example, if the file type is hello.txt in a subfolder of the drive, I would have to find it via "A:\subfolder\hello.txt" instead of searching for the file itself.


Is there a way to fix this so that I can search for the file itself instead of the address? I have already done "sfc /scannow" and "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" with both being 100% okay followed by a system restart.

a. wait for indexing to be complete
b. open file explorer at a point in the file hierarchy above a folder you wish to search which has been indexed
c. type the file name in file explorer's search field
d. post
i. Indexing options showing the folder is specified to be indexed
ii file explorer showing the search text and result

Indexing is not working

This issue may occur due to corrupt Windows search files or settings. I suggest you to follow the below method and check if it helps.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run search and indexing troubleshooter
and check. Please follow these steps:

• 
  Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
  
• 
  Click troubleshooting in the search results.
  
• 
  Click "View all" and then click "Search and Indexing".
  
• 
  Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.
  

Method 2: Check if Indexing and Windows Search services are enabled. If not, enable them, if they are already enabled, then disable Windows Search Service and then enable again and restart.

• 
  Press Windows key + R.
  
• 
  Type services in the run box, go to the Windows search services and restart them.
