  1. Install Aerolite Theme in Windows 10

I imported my Win 8 theme to 10. It kept most of the settings, except for the colours.

I tried changing to this theme, but it changed background colours, which I could not figure out how to change.
So I have reverted back for now.

Maybe someone will come along with some suggestions.

Hi Shawn, Thanks for the aerolite theme- with the experimental version of Aeroglass it helps to make Win 10's appearance more sane- with clear borders too.

I'm still using Filebox Extender, and note the icons it adds on the title bar appear cramped and shrunk, and the pin 'on top' icon is reduced to an outline with this theme installed. I'd used a theme with Aeroglass and Filebox Extender in Win 8.1 Pro without that happening- I wondered why that might be? I didn't notice this happening with the 'Colored' theme.

    Hello Dalchina,

I'm not sure why unless there may be some incompatibility with Filebox Extender.

It seems like every operating system I use, Brink is always there with a tutorial explaining exactly what I want to do! Thanks for the theme, the all-white explorer just wasn't cutting it with me. *Smile

Tried option 2 on a clean install win 10 pro x64 and the pc won't sleep. Monitors turn off but it never sleeps.

This new OS is very touchy so I'm creating restore points before every change or program install and making sure the monitors will still turn off and the PC still goes to sleep. I used the "b4 aerolite" restore point and the PC sleeps again.

Going to try option 1, I'll update this post after.

Update: PC sleeps with theme active using option 2 *Smile.

I have been using the experimental version of AeroGlass for windows 8 that comes from here:

    Aero Glass for Windows 8.x+

And it works great, but it has a debugging conhost window that can't be closed. But I like it in that the borders follow the automatic colour scheme I have for my Theme, whenever a new wallpaper rolls by, it applies the colours from that image, so my windows borders are always changing colour. Does the theme posted here also do that? I may try it anyway. But I was wondering if there is any way to tell that Debugging window not to show, like a command line switch for the "aerohost.exe" executable?

I tried this under Windows 8 but it never worked as well as this experimental version works in Windows 10, but I don't know if they are going to release the Windows 10 version.

  10. What is this tutorial even talking about? I don't have thick borders like that on any window; I have the 2 pixel wide borders.

Did you install the theme? That would be what this tutorial is talking about.

  12. Changing the accent color changes the color of the borders, no theme necessary.

The following statement is simply wrong: "When you change the color in Windows 10, it will only change the color of your Start menu accents, Start button, taskbar, buttons, text, Settings accents, sign-in screen accents, and Action Center accents. By default, window borders and title bars are white without an option to change them".

If you try the theme in the tutorial, I think you'll find that the statement is correct. *Wink

The default window borders are only 1 pixel, and barely even noticeable. The theme in the tutorial widens it so that the border color is noticeable.

If you don't like the theme, then you would only need to change your theme back to what you were using before.

    Hi,
    1. Using the experimental Aeroglass with this theme, I found the title text on background windows often almost unreadable. To improve this significantly, I use a fixed colour for the theme (rather than allowing the colour to change with the wallpaper- which wasn't necessary to consider in Win 8.1). Secondly I tweaked aeroglass using the experimental Aeroglassgui.7z (which seems to have been removed from the Aeroglass site in the last couple of days!) so the background titlebar is more opaque. (If the background titlebar is too transparent, the faded title text may not be clear depending on what it overlays).

(Note: there are other tweakers around, which are older, different and may not work).
    2. To adjust the window borders (border padding) I use Tiny Window Borders (which seems to work fine).

Assuming the registry entries are unchanged, they are here following a description of the utility.

So there's what I have currently for Win 10, using Y'z shadow for the drop shadows.

Note: I have a current query with Stardock over ShadowFX (which I'd not used on Win 8) as this seems to have no effect in Win 10. Has anyone used it?

Why am I interested? Well, Y'z shadow is very old; I used it in Win 8.1 with no problems, but it doesn't like ApplicationFrameHost.exe and leaves empty frame shadows which close if that process is closed. Thus tiled apps (including System Settings) are a problem with Y'z shadow, and I've had to write a small script to handle this- not a clean solution at all, or even an entirely complete one.
