Windows 10: Install error - 0x800705b9 when installing 2024-08 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5...

When I tried to install windows update of "2024-08 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 KB5042099", it failed and said "Install error - 0x800705b9"

I've read several articles and help guides and tried various fixes, but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be appreciated!

KB5022728 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8, and 4.8.1 (21H2) Win Update

Woops, MS is too late to address the .NET Framework 4.8.1 February 2023 security update can't be installed in several machines installed with Windows 10 21/22H2. Symptom:

• The .NET Framework 4.8.1 February cumulative update, KB5022498 will not install. This is an issue only occurs after installing the .NET Framework 4.8 February cumulative update, KB5022502, then upgrading to .NET Framework 4.8.1 then scanning for updates.

Workaround: Applying the following steps will allow KB5022498to be installed:

• Uninstall 4.8 February update (KB5022502 )
• Run command from elevated Command Promp: dism/online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
• Scan for windows update again, 4.8.1 February update (KB5022498) installs as expected.

Resolution:

• On March 29, 2023, KB5022498 was re-released to correct this issue.
