Windows 10: Install / Uninstall MSI Error 2203

Hello,

I am having trouble, I first noticed it when an iTunes update came out and the auto update failed, I thought nothing of it.
Next Adobe said it had an update, but it failed too. Then Plex media server did the same.

I finally gave in and manually downloaded the files, all failed with an Error 2203. I tried to uninstall iTunes from Control Panel and got the same error.

I also needed to install a piece of software that was in an MSI package, it gives the same error.

I have tried setting permissions for the temp and installer directories as that seems to be well googled, but I'm still stuck.

Any help would be appreciated!

OVI suite not reconizing the 'OVI suite USB mode' - N8

Hi Mahyav.

I tried the suggested 'Repair' to Ovi Suite which failed with 'Error 2203' (System error: 2147287035) so I uninstalled but when trying to install Ovi Suite again up pops the 'Error 2203' yet again. I like my N-8 but Ovi Suite is a pain as it suddenly refused
to see the USB connection even though it was correctly set on the N-8. I saw somewhere on Support the advice to "grant the System account Full Control permissions to the Nokia PC Suite install directory" but how does one go about that procedure?

 

installer uninstaller wont work

so no installers or uninstallers will work, i noticed this problem because steam wouldnt load, then i tried reinstalling, and i couldnt uninstall. tried with alot of other programs, sometimes error 2203, tried restarting with startup programs enabled.
now i dont know what to do

If you are trying to use a ".msi" installer you need to run the installer from an Elevated cmd prompt.

Thanks for the reply, I have added the option to "Run as Admin" but I still get the same error message when trying it.

I am able to install a few programs, but a lot fail with the error code.

Adobe Reader.
Apple iTunes.
Windows USB/DVD Tool (to create a bootable USB to clean install windows......)

Trying the install from an Admin cmd has the same error. I am an Admin on the computer, I have also tried creating a new local account on the laptop and making it in to an Admin account, but it still has the same error!

 

You don't appear to be alone with this problem. Searches on the net reveal loads of unsolved reports.
Two seem to help:
1. Delete the temporary files created by the msi installation. And try elevated install again.
2. Delete the itunes key from the registry. And try elevated install again.

This gives links to itunes "exe" installers which don't cause the problems which "msi" installers cause.
Sorry I can't help more as I don't use itunes.

I am currently running the Tweaking.com program to see if it can fix the permissions.
I am convinced it's a security issue, and something that Windows is having problems with as it is happening with multiple application vendors.

I will report back once Tweaking has finished and try the solutions you mention!
