    Yes, I must say MS were rather unhelpful in the live chat process - they couldn't email the transcript of the discussion, something that Google & Apple do without issue!

    I note this thread has been marked as solved - but...

    ...just to be clear ShowKey checks local validity (based on Windows licencing files) - it does not contact the activation server, for fear of reducing activation count and possibly blocking the key.
