Installing/reactivating Windows 10 after installing new motherboard

After a BIOS update, our computer is no longer usable. It turns on to a black screen and stays that way. We've been in touch with the manufacturer who sent out the update, but not having any success fixing it.

A "Geek Squad" person, told us we would most likely need to purchase a new motherboard, and also a new Windows 10 product key in order to get it back up and running . Then we found out we may also have to purchase a new hard drive in order to install Windows 10. I'm pretty sure the existing original hard drive is fine, so not sure why this would be an issue.

We purchased the computer new in 2016 with Windows 10 already installed. If we installed a new motherboard, can't we use the product key that originally came with the computer to reinstall/reactivate Windows 10 from Microsoft?

Also, since the computer will not even boot, how can we find the product key?

Thanks tons for any help/advice/info....it is tremendously appreciated.

    :)

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?
