Windows 10: Installing Windows 10 using SD card

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked many times before - I couldn't find anything conclusive, which leads me to believe that it's a non-starter, which I find hard to believe!

I have a 32gb tablet running 64 bit windows 8.1, Intel celeron 1.6ghz, 2gb mem ram - it has a single micro USB connector which, like a smartphone, is for both charging the tablet and data transfer/usb peripheral attachment etc.. I'd like to upgrade to windows 10, problem is there isn't enough space on the internal drive. If I attach an external drive, that does the job, but the tablet runs out of juice long before installation is complete. I can't charge the tablet at the same time as attach the external drive because the single port is one and the same. It does have a 64gb SDXC card however, but at the initial win 10 download stage I get the message that there isn't enough space on the internal drive, and unlike when I had the external drive attached via USB, it doesn't offer the option to install via the SD card. Can anyone advise me how to get around this? How can I upgrade to windows 10 without using the USB port as I will need to occupy that for power. Any help would be much appreciated. Hi I have Hp stream 13, and i have downloaded windows 10 to a micro sd card. The download was 100 % completed. while installation an error occurred and installation got stopped. Do i Need to dowload again windows 10, or can i use the downloaded thing that
is in the micro sd card, If i could used the thing that is in the sd card, how ?

How can I install apps from sd card on windows 10 mobile after resetting my phone ?I seen a window that tells that the apps on SD card want to delete to use sd card.what can I do?

Not sure if I'm missing something... but download the iso and extract to the SD card, launch setup from there and do the upgrade? If the bios does not support SD boot, a clean install would not be possible but an upgrade using the 'keep nothing' option is as good.

 

Thanks for the reply NavyLCDR, but it looks like that cable doesn't pass through power to the host unit ie the tablet, or have I misread?

 

It will pass power to the host. The question then becomes if the tablet will allow charging while in OTG mode. Keep in mind most of the comments will be about android, not Windows. There was this in the comments:

One key would be to make sure you are using a high power, at least 2A (amp), charger connected to second micro-SD port on the cable. My Windows tablet has a second power connector with it's own power supply, so I don't have one of these cables myself.

 

Hi Superfly, I tried using the tool on the win 10 webpage to create an ISO but ended up with the same result. Where can I get the ISO download from?

Ok - you can download the iso to a usb stick on any pc.

If you have to use tablet, then recharge it after you have downloaded iso.



Now this is VERY IMPORTANT if you have the 8.1+Bing OS.

Create a windows 8.1 recovery usb stick using

Control Panel, Recovery, Create Recovery Drive, and select to copy recovery partition.

This is because if things go wrong, you cannot reinstall standard 8.1 as it will not activate.

Also tablets often use special drivers not in MS iso, so a good plan to backup drivers as well in case things go wrong.

AFAIK I don't have 8.1 with Bing, so does that mean I don't need to create a recovery stick, or do you mean it's even more important to do so if I have Bing?
