Windows 10: INSTALLING WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM

Hi Guys, Gals and Clever people,


A little background first it'll only take a second...promise.

I'm in the UK. Had a Japanese student next door who was returning home after finishing his university degree. He saw me on his way to the rubbish bin and asked if I wanted one of his old laptops and told me he had wiped it clean of everything but it was working naturally...clever boy. So I now have what looks like a very clean Acer Aspire 5742 with 4GB of memory. A spare, I think to myself.... if I can get it working.


Now the problem:


When I switch it on all I get is a message on the screen saying :

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.

No bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key.


All I understand of the above is the last line. - lol.

Does it all mean if I buy a copy of Windows 10 and just insert it in the DVD drive it will work after following all the instal instructions, of course?

I don't want to waste money if something weird comes up and I end up having to buy loads of stuff or trying to format things I know nothing about. I HAVE installed programmes before so I'm ok with that simple task. Not interested in partitions or any of that complicated stuff.


If you are ever so kind to reply and know the definitive answer please make it reasonably simple by telling me what buttons to press. Step by step and we'll be friends forever.

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

need list of usb bootable Operating Systems

I am looking for a good list of operating systems you can run from a usb or dvd.

If not a list, then folks can just post their top picks.

I want these to run from the usb/dvd without installing on the system or getting in the way of the system that exists on the hard drive.

To better assist you, do let us the complete message that you receive.

Sometimes, this could be due to two operating system installed in your computer. Just to make sure this is not the case, I suggest you to try the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R.

2. Type msconfig and press enter.

3. Click the "boot" tab and check if there are any other operating system listed.

4. In addition, change the timeout time to 3 seconds(default)
