Aright Scotty, if that didn't work so you can install your BIOS, watch this video for the steps to do it manually:

Scotty one more important thin: Make sure you format the flashdrive to FAT32 or that it is already formatted, ok?

Hi Cliff, thank you. I’m doing all the same things as this chap and yes the stick is formatted that way. Oh well, I will leave for now and ponder on it! Thanks for your efforts, I appreciate it very much

  6. I double checked, the usb was FAT not FAT32! Trying again, and somethings happening. And now it's done. Latest BIOS installed. Lost about 300 marks in firestrike test but I guess I'll take stability and latest fixes over a few marks?

  7. Glad you got it done. I should have mentioned yesterday making certain the thumb drive was formatted correctly, sorry about that. Perhaps you can try running the Update tool Asus has in the same place at their site to see if that works to update the ME. If not then you are where I'm at. But if it works try also the Intel testing tool spoken of in this thread to see if your system is now not vulnerable. Mine still is.

  9. I installed the CU and that is all I can do. MSI is not going to provide a BIOS update so I have done all that I could do. Buying a new MOBO or CPU will do nothing as the CPU will have this issue. In about 9 months I may do so but it would be rather insane to do it now.

  10. I had my BIOS.ROM file on my hard drive, normally the ASUS EasyFlash will do it from there? Not this time, it found it but reported a bad boot code or block or something message. Put it on a fat32 formatted flash drive and no problems. It was actually a Micro SD card in a USB reader.

We now depend on manufacturers to do their job. This is what I see on HP site:
    Information regarding recent vulnerabilities
HP is aware of the recent class of vulnerabilities referred to as “speculative execution side-channel attacks” that affect many modern processors (Intel, AMD, and ARM ) and operating systems. HP will be providing updated information on this support site as soon as it becomes available.

My X99 Chip (Haswell-E) haven't gotten a BIOS update either from MSI (latest one is from 2016). I think they're just slow. If a BIOS update is required then they are forced by Intel to provide one for their platforms, including your 58x-E. Let's just sit tight and see if this microcode can be pushed through WU instead, as someone mentioned to me.

I saw that and downloaded and ran it but there’s no guidance from ASUS on what to do. I believe it errored out. I don’t understand the bit at the bottom at all

Intel has identified security issue that could potentially place impacted platform at risk.
Use ME Update tool to update your ME.
*We suggest you update ME Driver to the latest Version 11.7.0.1040 simultaneously.
Please download the file and check the MD5 code first.

  14. I just ran MEupdatetool.exe , brief flash of something and then it warned ‘please check MEI driver is installed’ clicked ok and then nothing else. I have no idea if the tool did anything or where I am supposed to get/ensure the MEI driver? This is for Skylake i7-6700k, does anyone know where I download it from and what version I need?

I checked devices in control panel under device manager and see an entry for intel management engine interface under system, it is version 11.0.0.1157. How do i update this? I went to PC Specialist website but there is nothing in downloads available for MEI

  15. Mine is from 7 or 8 years ago, so I doubt that MSI will make one.
