Intel Issues Updates to Protect Systems from Security Exploits

    Hi All,

Just got a chance to read this thread yesterday and always like to be sure before I do any critical updates regarding the BIOS. Below is what was detected in the Intel SA-00086 Detection Tool:

    Risk Assessment

Based on the analysis performed by this tool: This System is not vulnerable. It has already been patched.

    INTEL-SA-00086 Detection Tool

    Application Version: 1.0.0.152
    Scan Date: 1/7/2018 11:30:16 AM

    Engine: Intel(R) Management Engine
    Version: 11.8.50.3399
    SVN: 3

Now what I am wondering is ...should I update my BIOS? On the ASUS site for the ASUS TUF Z270 Mark1 there is a update dated 2017/11/22. My BIOS is from 2017/07/22 version 1009. Even though it states it is patched and not vulnerable, should I update to the 2017/11/22 ?

    thanks in advance

You might want to just wait until they have a new BIOS for these two new problems(The ME problem is already old news, sorry*Sad)for your 270 board, with a 2018 date.

    Unless....
You enjoy going through your BIOS and setting everything up the way you want it again & again & again.

It's the BIOS (ucode) updates that are the real kicker in performance.

    Wordsworth,

Did you update the Intel Management Engine interface to 11.7.0.140? How did you do it? I found the download but cannot work out or find info on what to run. The confusion being the timestamp on the ASUS Setup.exe. Plus inside each of these folders is also another ASUSsetup.exe, all with 2015 timestamps. What file from which folder do we run? Does this just install over the top of the existing Intel Management Interface? Once I do this successfully I’ll try the MEupdate tool from the ASUS site. I am wary of clicking the wrong thing and hosing things up. I wish ASUS would provide clear instructions on what to do.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

    Hi,
    @scottyboy

Run the .exe that's visible in your screenshot. The timestamp of that one isn't relevant.

    Cheers, *Wink

  9. Thank you so much. That worked perfectly.

    Hi Wordsworth,

i ran that MEupdatetool after and it seemed to do its thing and then restart pc to complete. Everything came up fine in the aftermath.

  10. A small suggestion.

Don't get in a hurry to update your bios. I'm trying not to do anything that might screw up the fix for this problem.
I personally will wait for more information on how to solve this problem.
As hard as the companies are working on this problem it shouldn't be long.

I did just took a look (curious) at the bios updates for my Asus X99 Deluxe II and I still have the most resent that I installed just before installing Windows 10.

  11. Glad you seem to have everything going now. I just got in and am going chill and relax this evening then do what you've done tomorrow.

Edit: Well, I had a longer post but this software (the forum) is screwing up so I'll just say I got it done tonight. Sigh.

  12. Good to hear. It’s been a headache for sure. More BIOS updates and cumulative updates to come i am sure as the saga unfolds
