Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Link Power Management) Performance Issues in Win 1803

This is an update on a post about the same issue I made about a year ago.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...nk-power/730feed5-924b-4bb9-8e7e-bfa20a387c65

What I have discovered since is that there is a difference between systems with or without IRST pre-installed. This machine didn't have it, and the solution for me then was to install it and then disable LPM. However, the two rarely used laptops I have (also Dell) came with IRST already installed. In those cases it seemed better to have LPM enabled, but performance still wasn't good enough. In fact, in one instance an attempt to update Windows failed completely - the Settings > Update pane remained blank.

Uninstalling IRST, in that case, solved the problem. Curious to know how reinstalling it might affect performance, but have more interesting or urgent things to see to for the time being. Anyway, for all I know, more recent updates to Windows may have addressed this issue. So.. I hope you'll pardon a possibly redundant point.

    :)

Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Link Power Management) Performance Issues in Win 1803

I'm still mildly curious as to why this appeared to be such a major problem for me only since the 1803 update.

Probably did have some performance issues previously, but nothing so insufferable.

Also curious about IAstoreA Warnings, Event ID: 129, when Intel Rapid Storage Technology wasn't even installed on this machine - a Dell Inspiron 3647, should that be relevant.

There was no tray icon for IRST like I could see on two laptops we have, but it never occurred to me to look in Apps & Features for it. So I went back and checked. It wasn't there.

There are mysteries above my head, I'll accept, therefore I am not here making further enquiry. Only saying what I found, in case it might be useful to someone else.

Without IRST installed there didn't seem to be any correlation between IAstoreA Warnings, Event ID: 129, and app/system freezes. However, with IRST installed I could see a positive link between the warnings and abnormal
disc activity which often resulted in such freezes. This was after a Clean
    Install of Windows 10
as well, as it happened, but I don't know now if it was necessary to go that far.

Previous searches indicated that disabling Link Power Management in IRST was the "fix" and, btw, that was also in relation to Dell products, but predated 1803 by a year or so. So I tried that and have had not an ounce
    of bother since.

I had previously found that different power states made matters either better or worse on this machine. If better, then only temporarily. There's some further detail about that which I posted in

    this thread
. On top of that, Sleep mode which I ordinarily never use turned out to help as well.
