How do I keep Windows 10 but also install Windows 7 on this computer?

You need to first determine if your laptop supports Windows 7 and has Windows 7 native drivers. Computers with newer AMD Ryzen or Intel 6th, 7th and 8th generation processors are not certified compatible.

How to dual boot Windows 10 and Vista

It might not be possible if your computer is using a modern processor such as an Intel 6th, 7th or 8th generation processor or AMD Ryzen. These new processors do not support Windows 8 and older version.

Your best option is to install Windows Vista in a virtual machine.

It's the same thing we saw AMD do with the original Athlon and then later with the A64 when Intel was forced to cancel the original Pentium architecture line (Prescott?) and go back to the drawing board and license x86-64 from AMD to build Core 2--only this time, AMD is under fantastic management and extremely well-positioned. Intel has even signed legal agreements with AMD in which it pledges not to pay companies to forgo selling AMD CPUs and core-logic products. The Ryzen launch will accomplish two very important things, imo:

(1) It's going to let people see the extent to which Intel has been gouging them on the high end...

(2)We will get to see if Intel has been sitting on a newer x86 architecture simply because no competition on the high end from AMD allowed it to milk the Core2 for a decade...and it's going to force Intel to drastically lower prices on its cpus if it desires to remain competitive with AMD on the x86 retail and server CPU fronts. I expect Ryzen to be faster and much less expensive than Intel's aging Core2-architecture CPUs, because, for one reason, the Ryzen architecture is much newer than what Intel is currently selling.

We shall see...! Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD who deserves huge credit here, will ensure that AMD will henceforth keep the R&D pedal to the metal so that it will never fall off the CPU "meat-wagon" again, as it did several years ago under different management @ AMD. She's the reason I am so optimistic about AMD--she knows what to do--exactly what to do...and she's doing it/done it thus far!

Great times ahead for consumers, imo!

 

As far as gouging goes on the high end, nobody is required to spend the big $$'s for the top of the line. People choose to do that. The more affordable Intel CPU's were still sparking AMD for the past decade.

With respect to AMD on the server front, I've never seen a server with anything but a Xeon processor. I know they exist, but I've yet to see companies use them.

I hope AMD really does come to the table with powerhouse performance. It would be nice to have an option other than Intel when it comes to my home computers. The last AMD I had was an Athlon 64 X2-4400+. I expect to see a quick response from Intel.

 

I'm not a fanboy for either one. But, I am waiting to see some user reviews. We have seen this game too many times from AMD. Remember all the hype about Bulldozer and again with Pile driver? We heard all the hype and saw a few "leaked" benchmarks about the new chips beating the Intel chips. When they came out, they couldn't come close to living up to their hype.

I honestly hope the AMD chips do live up to their hype. That would be very good for all consumers. But, so far that I have found, there are no 'hands on' reviews. So, color me a skeptic. I've seen this movie before.

All Intel can really do for now (until they release some new CPU's that is)
is to drop the prices on their current lineup of CPU's.

A nice reduction in the price of their Kaby Lake/Broadwell-E CPU's wouldn't be a bad move right now.

I think Intel is likely going to wait and see if AMD really pops, or if they fizzle. I usually like to spend no more than $300 on my CPU. I usually spend around $300 on my video card too. I find that if you spend more than that, it still goes obsolete just as far as the $300 choice, so I just prefer to build a new box in a few years.

 

AMD does this every 6-8 years. They spend a bunch of money to create a new architecture that beats Intel, but then they sit on it for years and let Intel decimate them. AMD just can't afford to create new architectures very often, and Intel has their Tick-Tock cadence which cycles the platform much faster than AMD can.

So yeah, enjoy the cheap, fast CPU's while you can, as Intel will likely have a response within a year. And then it will take another 6-8 years before AMD is able to afford to cycle.

 

I have read elsewhere that Intel has dropped its Tick-Tock strategy and that "Coffe Lake" is just around the corner. Exciting times ahead.

 

Exciting times ahead? My 4.6GHz unlocked I7 CPU runs at .8 GHz most of the time. I can hardly wait to get a faster cpu! I want to insert a sarcastic smilie here but this website editor won't let me. :-(

 

Actually, this has only happened once before, with the Athlon/A64. What happened then was the result of poor management decisions--they tried to do what Intel always does and they tried to milk the A64 architecture for as long as possible as opposed to concentrating on R&D to keep themselves ahead--and as you say, on the high-end they fell by the wayside. AMD's current CEO, MIT's Lisa Su, is the opposite of those old AMD managers, and is responsible for the company's current positioning with all of its products . I think AMD is back for good and has a bright future so long as Su, or people like Su, are running AMD. Good management is essential.

Anyway Intel already did drop prices did they not? Or at least reshuffle brand names so i5 becomes i3 and you can overclock an i3 and so on. I may have misunderstood that bit TBH.
