Windows 10: Intel should be very worried about AMD's Ryzen 7 processors

Discus and support Intel should be very worried about AMD's Ryzen 7 processors in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; I used to only buy CPU's at Microcenter when I lived near one. Intel should be very worried about AMD's Ryzen 7 processors

Yes, Intel is chopping the prices, officially, so no one needs to hunt & peck for 30-day warrantied OEM CPU deals (which I never buy, anyway, because of the 30-day warranties--Gaaaa!)--and keep in mind this is just the first round. As soon as Ryzen ships and Ryzen-specific compilers make the rounds there will be further Intel price cuts, certainly. Same thing happened with the original Athlon--a whole other performance tier was achieved when AMD compilers were used with Athlon (instead of Intel compilers, which had been the rule up to that point in time.)

But the main point we see is that Intel is already slashing its official prices on the eve of Ryzen availability, and I know they wouldn't do that if they had any doubt as to the performance of Ryzen relative to their own cpu lineup. The other point is that it's great to see the effects of real competition...!

The article you posted did not give any evidence of that. Those were all bog standard Microcenter prices that have been in place for months. If you read through the comments, you will see a lot of people that agree with me.

Microcenter does not sell "30 day warranty" CPU's, they're boxed retail CPU's, not OEM ones.

It's all nice and easy for you guys with i7 Skylakes and Kabys to say you don't need Ryzen but I could and will make use of a 6/12 Ryzen just to switch to next generation. This FX of mine is lacking power only at about 10% of jobs but still have to make a jump. Will start with a decent overclockable MB and see what future will bring.

    You're correct there Mike*Wink
And having to buy a new board for a Ryzen adds in the cost.
But If I was building or buying a new PC, I might contemplate an 8 core Ryzen though, I ain't gonna lie*Smile

  5. I will wait and see the reviews and or problems. I work in 3D Design and Intel has always been better than AMD. Now maybe this will change but i will wait and see.

    here's Anandtech's review

There actually are 2 good reasons to buy AMD - better value for high end Ryzen - 7 chips vs. Broadwell E and Haswell E; and feeding money to AMD should help to make them a healthy competitor to Intel in the long run- and having a healthy competition between the 2 companies will benefit everyone.

Intel will not be supplanted by AMD in the processor department. This round might be AMD's finest hour, but that's temporary. Reminds me of when I first got into PC's, AMD's chips were all the rage, but in the end Intel stood tall. I see nothing changing in the future.

And no, I don't hate AMD (though I've never used their processors, and don't plan on it); quite the opposite as I hope they succeed and thus force Intel's hand in giving us 8-core processors at a more affordable price.

In this instance, competition is good.

    My two cents.

Well I didn't read the entire article, I just jumped to the conclusion page and gleaned these under the Bad, and Memory sections

    • DIMM slot restrictions – Populating all 4 slots only nets 2400MHz speed
    • Memory speed restrictions
    • No quad-channel memory support
    • Short on PCI lanes/PCI lane speed restrictions
    • Chipset lanes are gen 2 instead of gen 3
While all these aren't necessarily game breakers as far as gaming, they could be an issue for content creators. That said, some of these issues may be solved through motherboard maturation, but...

From the reviews I have looked at today seems they are not "all that" in the OC department and they do not seem to be fairing as good as Intel in the Gaming area either, but that could be because most games are designed with Intel processors in mind but this could start a change there.....

For the money though......you could pick up the 1700X and a new GTX1080 for the same as a High End Intel processor........

Well from the review linked above, they said the chips were just as overclockable as Intel's 8-core chips, though you couldn't separate individual cores like you can on the Intels. That said, I suspect this will all be worked out in newer MB releases as the tech matures.

As for overall gaming, I don't think they'll lag there as well. Like now, some games will far better than others given a myriad of circumstances. In the end, it’ll depend on what you want to use the chip for - gaming, spreadsheets, content creation, that'll determine how good the chip is, and whether to go AMD or Intel.

For me, I'm staying with Intel unless AMD is blowing Intel out the water in the year to come.

    My two cents.

  12. If you look at the GPU'S & CPU'S you will see if you use "The Bottleneck Calculator", the gpu like the GTX 980 Ti's are 16% too weak to be used on a 6800K ect so they need to use more powerfull gpu's to remove the weak link in my opinion.

    Like a Titan X for example ?

As I am not sure what GPU'S the Ryzen can be used for atm.

ALSO - what was the first i7 & i5 how about comparing the Ryzen to the first Intel i7 ?

Don't really care about Ryzen, but I do care about competition and it looks like AMD finally can compete in the CPU market.

Now that I think is an excellent point.........I have to wonder on why the motherboard shortages also........something just smells a little fishy to me......

I do hope that when the dust settles that AMD will have a big winner on the court; the credible competition will benefit us consumers....
