Windows 10: Intermittent Freezing of Windows 10

I bought a new laptop a few months ago, and I'm having an intermittent problem that I'm trying to stop. It usually occurs when I have multiple applications open and have been working for some time. The following occurs:


* The mouse freezes and unfreezes repeatedly.


* Applications become very slow and fail to respond to attempts to close them for considerable lengths of time.


* Control-Alt-Delete does nothing.


* The system cannot be shut down save by the power button.


I've checked the system log afterward, and there's no sign of an event that might have triggered this.


Any ideas about troubleshooting would be appreciated. I'd like to avoid a complete reinstall, if at all possible.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
