Windows 10: Intermittent internet connection - auto disconnect

For almost a year now, I have had a constant problem with my computer's internet connection. My wifi seems to turn on and off at will at various times. Sometimes, it doesn't happen for a week or two, and other times, it happens multiple times per couple of days.

My network interface card is of high spec and has been used on multiple motherboards and multiple copies of Windows 10 specifically so I know that it isn't an issue with the PCIe slot or a specific build of Windows 10 (in other words, I have had this problem on multiple versions of Windows 10). The make of the NIC is D-link, and model is DWA-582 Wireless AC 1200.

I have tuned the power settings, reinstalled the drivers, and have swapped between 2.4 and 5 Ghz settings numerous times without avail. It would only provide a temporary fix until the wifi decides to drop out again. I also know that it may not necessarily be traffic on my network, as my brothers' two computers beside my plus our iPads never experience these issues (and they are both running Windows 10 as well).

The errors shown also vary. Sometimes, the 2.4 and 5 Ghz connections won't show up in the network list at all, other times there'll be a yellow triangle or asterisk or red exclamation mark, and other times it will say secured, no connection, or limited. It seems to be giving all the errors ever thought possible, and I don't know what may be causing them. If someone has a solution, I'd be grateful to know what it is. Thanks for your time.

Internet connection is on 2-3 seconds intermittent auto connect mode after exiting the Social app. Even if the connection has been disconnected manually, it will auto connect again & again, eternally! So, we are online all the way! This happens to everyone
on E7 after the Anna update.



I have the same issue and reported it to the mail adress in question.

The issue is intermittent here, disconnecting wifi and reconnecting usually works. May have to forget the net work and establish a new one. settings > network & internet > wi-fi > manage wi-fi settings.

If I let it auto connect, it sometimes reads no internet connection after system start.

You can check for driver updates in device manager.

This is most likely a driver issue but lets start with the usual suspects. Use 2.4 for distance, 5 for speed.

This tool will let you visualize your network and the networks around you. The goal is to find a channel with less interference. Why it is not impacting other device will be a mystery for another day.

To a Command Propmt(admin)

Netsh wlan show all
(produces report on wireless. Once output is produced, click in command window, then Crtl + A, then open Notepadand Crtl + C to paste. Check that the entire output has been captured. Post text file.)

I would also recommend disabling Wifi Sense in Settings, Network and Internet, under Wi-fi.

As I said in my opening I think it is driver. I would find a driver from a year ago and force its installation. Have a restore point in hand. If this works we have to disable Windows handling your drivers. I have a very good older radio that only works on older drivers.

Hi Caledon, thanks for answering.

I already have Wifi Sense disabled, so I know that it can't be interfering. Also, I have went to D-link's website and have downloaded their Windows 10 drivers, maybe a driver that didn't exist on the CD. I can't find older, archived versions of Windows 10 drivers, so I'll have to rely on that one and see how it goes for the next few days.

I have attached the txt file to this post which has the log from that command you asked my to type in. Also, the tool you provided my with shows a perfect score of 100 on the 5GHz band with no interference whatsoever, so the environment is not to blame. I'll try disabling IPv6 in the registry if I keep having problems; again, thanks for your help.

Interesting your report shows your AC or 5Ghz only goes as high as 54Mbps and it appears your 2G goes just as fast.

Your is your current data transfer rate between your router and device?

I would also try your 2G network as a test to see its speed. Before I did that though I would change security protocol to WPA2 and I would change to channel 9 or 11.

There are several network, all at 100%, all on channel 6. Do you own these networks?

When looking for drivers lots of 8.1 drivers work very nicely.

Lets see what your IPv6 experiment yields.

Your router is set for 2g to g type max speed 50 meg this may be slowing the whole system
