Windows 10: Intermittent non access to internet, depite connecting to WIFI.

Hello, I have a small network with two laptops Windows 10, linked to Internet via WIFI let us call it SSID, a modem/router Fritzbox 7530 and a Printer linked through Ethernet cable to the modem/router. From time to time, the Wifi deconnects from the internet, at that point it shows the SSID not as SSID but as SSID2 despite that I have only one SSID.

How do I get back a connection to internet of any one of my laptops? By changing the network i.e. I use the hotspot function of my iPhone, connect my laptop through the iPhone to the internet. At that moment, I reconnect to my WIFI SSID and then the internet connection is back and working.

Why is the modem/router not causing this havoc? Since my non-windows devices such as smartphones, tablets, radios continue to work fine and to be linked via WIFI to internet.

What is wrong in my setting so that from time to time, the WIFI accesspoint of each of my laptops independently does not connect to the internet? And I can reset it by using a totally different access point i.e. hot spot of my smartphone.

Oh I think you're on to something. I did just install a VPN recently, just to try it out, just before issues began. However I am no longer using it. It actually worked fine while I was trying out for a day or so. It's not been running while I'm having these issues.

My suggestions:

Hard reset router (reset button may be hiiden inside a pinhole)

Change DNS:

Change IPv4 and IPv6 DNS Server Address in Windows

Use one from the list "Item 7. To Use Custom or Third-party DNS Server Address"

Run WifiInfoView and change router channel if nearby routers are detected on nearby channels.




Log into router and change channel if needed:





Run Wireless Wizard and update network profiles then "Test & Fix"

You can try these troubleshooting steps:





1. Move closer to a WLAN access point to get better WLAN signal.

2. Check that you do not have MAC (Media Access Control) address
filtering on in the access point settings. If your WLAN network uses MAC address filtering for security. You will need to know the MAC address for your phone, and then add it to the access list for the network before you can connect. To find
the MAC address for your phone, do the following:

• • Press Start, then swipe left to the App list.
    
  • Select Settings > About > More info.
  • If there are many WLAN access points nearby, try to use a different wireless
    channel in your WLAN access point.
    

3. If you are using a public WLAN access point, it is possible that all
IP addresses are in use. Try to create a connection again later.

4. On your Lumia phone, delete non functioning WLAN access point (internet connection) and connect it again:
