Windows 10: Internet Explorer takes over from mozilla Firefox Quantum unrequested.

*WhatNever thought of that. Firefox,I find to be a pain in the extremities with all the jiggery pokery it has been going through the last 12 months or so. Very few of their add-ons work properly anymore. I know that if I was a developer of add-ons of any type uploading to Firefox, I am pretty certain I would cease doing so.

For many years as a browser it was rock solid and the best thing around. No longer.
I am not sure but they appear to only have a 64bit version now. I will look into this and get back to you. Good thinking on your part,my friend.*Thumbs

 

Apparently you now get offered the 6bit Firefox on the official download page if your system is detected as 64bit. If you want the 32bit version it is here;

However you would need to uninstall 64bit firefox and remove any remnants before rebooting and installing 32bit. Backup bookmarks first (export them)

Get a copy of GeekUninstaller (portable) and run it. https://geekuninstaller.com

Find Firefox in the list of programs and double click it.
Choose yes when deleting profile data.
Allow it to scan for leftovers.
From the results list delete everything directly related to the Firefox Program installation or application data.

Reboot when finished.

Run Cccleaner if you've got a copy. Check here for Firefox leftovers and delete if found:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Press the [Windows key+R] to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder if found.

Reboot.

Download a fresh copy of firefox and install it.

It's your call though.

 

*KillMany thanks my friend for all your time,effort and helpful suggestions. Just taken Firefox Quantum off again for the 3rd time and additionally, I did some research on Google and additionally with Kapersky.

1.Kapersky has joined he ranks of fully automated replies on their Tech dept side. Bone idleness on their part. Followed all their instructions, some identical to instructions that you kindly gave to me, now sure that that the problem lies fairly and squarely with Mozilla Firefox.

They,as so many other developers, take the attitude,CHANGE, must have it,CONSEQUENCIES, baah!, d'ont worry about that, public will soon complain.

2. On Google, this business about Firefox not working properly, is rife! This makes using Safe Mode in Kapersky now very difficult as it used to work perfectly in previous Firefox versions, however, NO LONGER.

Opera has no built in facility to cope with kapersky Safe Mode, Edge can occasionally work with it but slips into Internet Explorer most times to do the job.

*HahaInternet Explorer is antiquated, long out of date, crashes frequently and is not a separate browser or system as such, more an add on that is left over by Microsoft from a bygone time. Cannot be removed either. Turned off,yes.

However, done that,have the T shirt, there were problems thrown up. Put it back on again. Lesser of 2 evils.

*Drink1Before giving up completely, I will try your above suggestion my friend. I must say that I do not have a lot of faith that it will work as Firefox on my computer is just not working properly in any way shape or form. Shadow of it's former self. Will keep in touch.

 

I just downloaded and launched the portable version of this:

Basilisk Browser (stable Beta) created and maintained by the team behind Pale Moon.

I loaded my old Firefox extensions from the .xpi files backup and they all work - even the unsigned extensions.



It seems to use it's own Profile folder:




EDIT: However some new extensions developed for Quantum only do not work.

 

I doubt very much that it would work with Kaspersky Safe Money.

*Party No,unfortunately, no provision available for kapersky Safe Money.
However, for anyone who likes/liked Firefox as it used to be and became famous for it's addons, it covers practically everything Firefox used to cover including all the apps without the pointless hassle we now recieve in the present Firefox. Additionally, it has all of the Firefox themes, addons etc.

I shall use it as main browser and use Internet Explorer or Edge when using Safe Money for kapersky.

I'm going to keep it around just to make use of old extensions when needed! Maybe see if they continue to develop it.
