Windows 10: Internet not working

This morning, despite showing a connection, applications could not access the internet. However, I could still go to a few sites on google chrome. I have tried many fixes including uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, resetting the router, all the obvious things like trying a new cable, some command prompt things, and I finally reset my computer. However, the issue persists. I believe I somehow made the issue worse because now it does not show a connection although it recognizes that there is an ethernet cable connected. Also, the ethernet port lights are on but im not sure if it means anything. I have already tried everything the support bot suggested and more.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

Internet Explorer has stopped working

• If you were able to see any error code/ error message when Internet Explorer crashes?

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to run the Internet Explorer Performance troubleshooter.

• Press Windows key, type troubleshooting
  and select it.
• Click on View all in the left pane.
• Click onInternet Explorer Performance and follow the onscreen instructions.
