Windows 10: IP helper service keeps resetting to manual after each reboot

  1. IP helper service keeps resetting to manual after each reboot

Taking in base this old thread:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...te-being/f79f79d2-f8ce-4a0d-b327-50d69e2ecccb

I'm having the same problem, suddenly from one day to another the IP helper's stopped working and after a while I noticed that it was due to be set to manual, and I knew it was not like that before I was having problems with Teredo/Xbox connections. The service start normally if I start it manually, however after setting it to automatic, it keeps going back to manual after I reboot the PC.

I did nothing that could have provoked this.

However, like in the thread above I use Bitdefender, which blocks the connections with Teredo/Xbox, but I made it work before, and Bitdefender never made any changes in the IP helper's service before and I do not use any kind of Game boost profile that could have be overriding service's settings.

So I was wondering, has anyone had this problem too? Could this be related to BitDefender which is my guess?

And how to fix it, because there's gotta be something messing and overriding with the system settings and I'm not finding a solution anywhere

    :)

  2. Service Host Using LOTS of Memory. Services: WMI and IP Helper

    Just an update...

I managed to solve my issue by disabling the service "Ip Helper" which belongs to service host and restarting the computer.

The leak stopped and I haven't found any more problems since then.

However, this isn't the right fix. The right thing to do was to know why the two services inside service host(IP Helper and WMI) are conflicting with each other causing a leak.

Maybe your leak isn't coming from the same services as mine so I suggest stopping each one individually until you find the ones that are causing the leak.

Once you've done that try keeping them disabled and restart your computer.

I managed to keep IP Helper disabled without causing any malfunctions to my system.

    Good luck.

ip helper and WMI service. Huge memory leaks. IP Helper not fixed?

    w10 1909

Does anyone know why IP Helper service causes such a huge memory leak?

on google, this seems to be an ongoing problem since windows 7.

it eats 2gb of ram, and somehow causes WMI to eat another 2gb of ram.I stopped the IP Helper service to recover the ram, and it doesn't look like anything is broken. It says it's for ipv6 stuff, but I'm not using ipv6 for anything.

    Yet, the ram keeps leaking.

    What's going on?

I have VMware workstation installed, but I'm not running any VMs

I also have hotspot turned on, with 2 phones connected, but they're idle.

so why does ip helper grow to 2gb ram usage?

IP helper service keeps resetting to manual after each reboot

Service "IP Helper" deactivates after every restart - Teredo is unable to qualify

    Hi Marc,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Service resetting could be avoided by setting the Service
Recovery to Restart the Service. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works:

Set Service Recovery to Restart the Service:

    • Press ‘Win + R’ keys on the keyboard together to open the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
      services.msc
    • Locate IP Helper service and right click on it.
    • Choose Properties and go the Recovery
      tab.
    • Set the following in order:

First Failure = Restart the Service

Second Failure = Restart the Service

Subsequent Failures = Restart the Service

Reset Fail count After = 120

      Restart Service After = 0

    • Click OK, save the changes, and reboot the machine to see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, as the issue is related to Teredo connection, you may want to uninstall and reinstall the Xbox app. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app has fixed the issue for many.

    Uninstall and Reinstall Xbox app:

    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Windows PowerShell (Admin)
      .
    • Copy paste the following command and hit Enter:

      Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage
    • Reboot the machine and install the Xbox
      app from Microsoft Store.

    Regards,
