Windows 10: IPV6 and Teredo Tunneling Adapter for Xbox Chat

I currently cannot get the xbox party chat to work through my pc. I will try to explain my issue further and give all the details about my system/setup that I can. I am not a networking genius so forgive me if I sound like I do not know what I'm talking about.

Current ISP: CenturyLink

Modem/Router Combo: Actiontec GT784WN (i don't believe it supports IPV6) (not from ISP, purchased from Amazon)

Windows 10 desktop with the most current updates (connected via ethernet)


Currently Teredo Tunneling is not shown in Device Manager (even with "hidden" shown). And it is not in the list to add from Legacy Products. I have tried all the cmd prompts that I can find on the internet and nothing has worked. Is all of this pointless since my modem/router does not support IPV6? Could I bridge my modem/router and use a second router to get IPV6?


I worked on this for about 3 hours last night and did not achieve anything besides reading a ton of aritcles. Lol

Hi,

As I understand it, Teredo is now pretty obsolete, and Microsoft began deprecating it around 2014.

The best solution for IPv6 would be for your router to support it naively (this of course assumes your ISP supports IPv6 too - sometimes you need to contact them to enable it for you.)

Failing that, if you have a remote box somewhere that does support IPv6, you could look into the possibility of using, say, a PPTP tunnel from your router to this box to get IPv6 connectivity.

Mind you, PPTP is also pretty obsolete these days and might best be done using L2TP if your router supports it. There may be some howto guides on how to set up such an L2TP tunnel with IPv6 to a remote server/VM.

 

Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter not Found

Hi,

It started off from teredo unable to qualify for Xbox connection.

Then, I tried following tons of suggestions through showing hidden drivers in Device manager, changing DisabledComponents value to 0.

However, I still cannot find Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter.

I tried to install it by adding legacy hardware with all ways, but there was no Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter in the list of the Microsoft Network Adapter .
