Is it normal for File Explorer to take forever to pause?

I'm backing up files from an unstable hard drive. At some point, the file explorer decided it would take more than a day to transfer a single file, so I decided, why not pause it and then unpause to see if it goes faster? Well, it's been pausing for hours now. So I'm worse off than if I'd just let it rock, since I'm not sure if it'll ever actually pause the transfer, but if it does, I'll be asleep and unable to unpause it, leading to wasted time, which I can't afford, since the hard drive is failing. Why is this happening, exactly? And why is it that I remember the exact same problem happening before?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

File Explorer - takes forever to open

One thing comes to mind... If you have some network link in Quick access (pinned, or in recent folders section), Latest update broke some network connections. In that case Explorer would tkae some time to open..

    - check that all of your network connections are online and accessible,
    - or clear them from list.

You can check recent list from right click on Explorer icon in taskbar too.

File Explorer resetting to Details after Anniversary Update

    Hi,

Let's get this sorted out. We suggest you try these troubleshooting steps:

    • Start the Windows in clean boot. To do this, follow the steps
      here
      .
    • Once in clean boot environment, change the settings again to set it back to
      List
. Normally, changing the view style in the bottom right of the window and exiting File Explorer should do the trick. The next time you open File Explorer, it should default to the last view style selected.
    • If the issue persist, let's run SFC scan to look for corrupted files. Here's
      how
      .
    • Restart the computer normally.

    Share with us the results.

    Thanks.
