  1. Is it Windows 10 or my USB WiFi Dongle?

I'm pretty sure this is a common issue no solution I've found has worked yet.

I've owned this wifi dongle for over a year. Device Manager says it's called Realtek 8812BU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC. It's been having issues for over a few months now.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64bit 20H2 with no issues except this. I play games with my spouse via LAN on the same WiFi and I freeze a lot in-game, whereas she doesn't. Also when browsing Google occasionally shows me the No Internet screen. Everytime these issues happen I check if I'm connected to the WiFi via my taskbar and to my surprise, yes, I am. (The issue with my last usb WiFi dongle was complete WiFi disconnection). So this looks like a different issue, maybe.

I've left the Task Manager performance window open on one occasion whilst playing online in hopes I learn something and the graph shows a clear cut. No signal drop. So I began changing drivers.

I've gone through so many different drivers in hopes of fixing this. The driver signed by windows (likely from Windows update) had this issue. The 2017 Realtek driver that came on a CD with the dongle also failed to fix this, a 2018 Realtek driver I got through some auto driver update software also didn't fix this. Power Management was disabled for with all drivers and that didn't help. What's worse is I don't know if any changes are making an impact because 1 - 3 hours my internet is fine, then for 1- 2 hours everything gets delayed in game by 30 seconds or I can't access any website, every minute. Spouse gaming on the same WiFi via ethernet and no issues, wish I had that premium haha.

I guess I'm just hoping someone with the recent windows versions knows a fix? I'm on the edge of buying an Intel WiFi dongle incase it's Realtek at fault but I read somewhere that windows 10 just isn't compatible with 802.11 adapters or something.

Then again, is it a sign this WiFi dongle is dying? I just don't want to buy a new one and it have the same issue.

Any advice much appreciated. I reply quickly :]

  2. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

Is there a pci card with both Wifi and Usb?

I already have a wifi dongle and it is kind of annoying, I'm looking into buying a pci usb card and would love to have both usb and wifi on the same card as it is a mini itx build and is meant to be portable.

Is it Windows 10 or my USB WiFi Dongle?

Dongle is working properly but showing no internet

    Hi Monica,

Just to clarify, are you using a WiFi dongle to connect to the internet instead of the built in WiFi adapter of your device? Or are you using a desktop PC and is the WiFi dongle to connect to the internet? For now, what we can suggest is to follow all of
the recommended troubleshooting steps on this article to resolve the issue. Be sure to click
Show all to see all of the instructions. Please follow all of the recommended so we could troubleshoot further.

If the issue would still persist after doing all of the steps, please answer these questions:

    • What is the make and model of your device?
    • Were there any updates/changes to your device prior to the issue happening?

We'll be waiting for your updates.
