Is my cpu tempurature too high?

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz cpu and an app called speccy is telling me that the tempurature of it is 77 °C!
I looked it up and it said that the max temperature should be around 60. My pc is quite old and a bit dusty, but I didn't expect that!!

  2. Windows 10 freezes

    You need some clues.

Open task manager. Look at all the colums of info. How much is cpu use?

How Much is disk use? Memory use? What processes are using a lot of the machine?

Open Event Viewer. Go to Windows logs. Look for errors, warnings.

Go to Device Manager. Look for errors & warnings.

    Set screen resolution to 1024x768.

    Any IRQ conflicts?

Download OpenHardware Monitor (free), it will give you realtime cpu tempuratures and gpu temps. Overheating is a possibility.

Look at Voltages in bios. Should be within 5% of 12v,3v,5v.

    Uninstall Nvida Automatic updater.

Look for a new Video card driver built for Win 10.

    Update Windows.

  3. Windows Audio is utilizing too much of my CPU.

Is my cpu tempurature too high? [IMG]

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro because of claims about a boost in performance. However, I noticed that CPU utilization at idle was about 50% and when I opened Google Chrome, CPU utilization jumped up to 90%. On Windows 7 Ultimate,
my CPU would barely reach 10% at idle. I don't understand what is happening here and I do not want to end Windows Audio because I need it to stream content among other things. I am going to reinstall Windows on Saturday but I've had this issue on two other
computers as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Plus we need to establish it's the CPU core, or the socket temp being reported here.

If your max package temp were 60, your CPU cores are running higher than that when the package reaches that temp, would definitely throttle before that point.

But you have to look at the temp while it's under load.

Use a small air compressor, or a can of compressed air and blow out the dust from the CPU heatsink and fan. Typically this needs to be done every 6 months here.

Heat is the major cause of system failure and slowdowns.

Motherboards are designed poorly, and there is little consideration for dust buildup which will invariably overheat components.
Dont forget to blow out the power supply.
    Pun intended.

A simple dusting can reduce temps by 40F or more.
