  1. Is there a bug in Windows explorer's sort by name?

Hello,I am having issues with explorer's "sort by name" feature on windows 10 enterprise. I cannot provide a screenshot for company policy but the minimum setup is easy to recreate. If I create three files named, for example, 230e01 77ffc0 a0cd00, the one named 230e01 is always sorted in the middle of the other two despite being first alphanumerically character "2" is byte 0x32, character "7" is byte 0x37 and character "a" is byte 0x61. It is vitally important that these files are sorted correctly because they are to be inspected in ascending order.Thank you in advance.J.

Is there a way to fix the sort by name in Windows 10 File Explorer?

There seems to be a bug in Windows 10 File explorer.

For instance here are four files I created listed how they appear when I have sort by Name ascending selected:

These are not correctly sorted by name ascending. The proper sort would be:

This bug appears whenever the filenames start with the same character. In other words, File Explorer will place a file that starts with '1' before one that starts with 'A'.

This only happens in File Explorer and open dialog boxes that I'm aware of. Command line lists the files in the proper order.

Is there a fix for this? Am I off my rocker? Googling is coming up zilch for me. This also seems like a very strange bug, sorting algorithms have been around for ages now.

    Sorting with File Explorer.

I tried the method that was complicated (3rd option) but fell over in second step as I could not find any "apply to folder button"'.

However, the simple put *.* in search bar, then sort results windows by date does the trick. It is slightly cumbersome as I have to do that each time I am selecting files (to upload to sharepoint) but a lot less hassle than I was having to scroll up and down between sorted file block and sorted folder block.

    Many thanks.
