  1. is there a difference between restart and shutdown + manual reboot if fast boot is disabled ?

just wondering, i know that if fast boot is enabled, restart is a clean boot while shutdown is a semi hibernation mode. If its turned off, do both options clean boot, or is it switched around ?

  2. Windows 10 Restart fails/hangs but Shutdown and manual Start works

I updated from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10.

During the installation it-self, each time Windows restarted, it hung up displaying just blue Windows logo. I had to manually shutdown and start the laptop each time and surprisingly the due installation step proceeded after start.

But finally now when Windows 10 is installed and running fine, I have one last problem.

Each time I Shutdown, I can switch on windows nicely. But if I chose Restart, it fails during start phase. It just displays Windows 10 blue logo indefinitely.

    What to do?

    I have tried following:

    - BIOS changes

    - Disabling Fast Shutdown

    - Ran the command: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

Because of this, even safe boot is not working (because in Windows 10 safe boot run only during Restart process)

  3. BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO On Reboot

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this. I really appreciate it, and I haven't been able to find any similar issues through searching.

I have everything important already backed up.

I was trying different BIOS settings just now and discovered the following:

    • With Fast Boot disabled in the BIOS (and from the Fast Boot application), I don't encounter the BSOD.
    • Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support was disabled. I enabled it. This changed several other related settings, namely only allowing UEFI Boot Mode (which I would expect to be standard for my system and Windows version). I thought maybe this was the problem. It seemed to make no difference.
    • This BIOS has two "Fast Boot" options: "Fast Boot" and "MSI Fast Boot." According to the manual,
I tried both (separately, as they can't both be enabled) after enabling WHQL Support, and I encounter the BSOD on the first restart every time. Still, the second reboot that occurs after the BSOD is a significantly faster boot and does not result in the BSOD.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Windows 8.1 Pro Slow When Restarting But Cold Boot Is Fast

Hi starvinmarvin, this is Techhelper89. I'm here to help.

    Try the following troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Disable Fast Startup and check if it works for you.

Fast startup is a new feature in Windows to help your PC start up faster after shutting down. When turned on, Windows does this by using a hybrid shutdown (a partial hibernate) method that saves only the kernel session and device drivers (system
information) to hibernate (hiberfil.sys) file on disk instead of closing it when you shut down your PC.

    Steps:

    1. Press Windows + X key and click Control Panel.
    2. Click on Power options.
    3. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    4. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable. If it prompts to click on yes, then click Yes.
    5. Uncheck Turn on fast startup (Recommended) under shutdown settings.
    6. Click Save changes to configure the settings.

The link I have found these steps from is slow restart problem -windows 10. (This is another post on the Microsoft Community.)

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Thanks.
