Windows 10: Is there a way to truly recover lost desktop files over an accident? It was a onedrive issue

2 months ago i deactivated Onedrive's syncing feature because i did not want my desktop to be locked onto onedrive and because i had over 5gb filesThe problem is, today i accidentally deleted the desktop folder, at first i thought it did nothing because my files were still there, but a while later i look and everything is gone, even though that desktop file was not fully up-to-date and even contained old files that i deleted now.I tried my best, i restored the "Desktop" folder from the Onedrive recycle bin and downloaded it, however im still sad because this Desktop folder is OUTDATED and is f

Recovering Lost Files

Thank you for posting in Community. I understand your concern and we will try to assist you in the best way we can.

Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information below:

Can you find the files now, if you go to windows.old?

I would suggest that you perform Power Drain and check you can find the files and folder that you have lost. To do so follow the steps below:

• Unplug the charger and remove the battery of your laptop, if using a desktop remove the power cord.
• Press and hold the Power button for 30sec
• Plug the charger/power cord and restart system

If you can't find a file on your computer or you accidently modified or deleted a file, you can restore it from a backup (if you're using Windows backup) or you can try to restore it from a previous version. Previous versions are copies of files
and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. Previous versions are sometimes referred to as shadow copies.

Lost OneDrive Files/Pictures

Good Day Forum,

I recently purchased a new desktop and transferred all the files from my old computer to new computer, and had my new computer linked to outlook account so onedrive was there etc, first time doing that.

I copied all my files onto my desktop.

A while later I saw on the the icons on the desktop that it looked like some of them were linked to the cloud.

I tried to remove desktop from cloud but couldn't figure it out. I mistakenly thought if I just delete the files from within OneDrive they would take them off onedrive but they would remain on my desktop. Boy was I wrong, everything quickly deleted from
my desktop and I've lost over a decade of pictures and other files.

This is what I have done so far:

I have found recycle bin and recovered a few files that aren’t very important. From One Drive on computer I haven’t found many useful ways to recover. However when I sign into OneDrive on browser, I follow the below steps:

1-setting

2-options

3-restore your OneDrive



Here is shows me many files/folders etc. I selected everything to restore. I can now see the folders that once existed (in the browser OneDrive) but the majority of the folders are empty, the pictures seem to have not recovered.

I've tried tor recover a few times and sometimes then the folder disappears again. I'm pretty confused at this point.

......that states albums aren't recoverable which seems unbelievable.



There has to be some way to recover. I am really regretting linking the computer to a microsoft account at this point.

I know with google you can get a link and download everything that was there at a certain date, i am kind of hoping for something like that.

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
