  1. Is upgrading Windows to the latest version is safe?

Hi, I got a laptop that I got my parents for passing my scholarship exam. It's not a lot old, came with default Windows 10 Home of version 1809, with 4 GB RAM and a Pentium Gold processor.

I kept it updating, running smoothly and fast, even though it had a ULV processor. It worked fine until, recently, I updated it to the latest feature update, Windows 10 20H2 feature update. It caused a heavy lag on my Laptop, even though it had more than 2 GB RAM and a 1 GHz processor, which is the minimum requirement for Windows 10. This lag caused me to wait for 10 minutes to boot the Windows and even more time for the icons on the desktop to load.

I immediately roll back my update, back into 20H1, but actually, even before the 20H2 update, 20H1 is also a bit laggy. So I decided to reinstall the entire Windows 10, version 1903, which seems to be stable on my Laptop. So,what I want to know is whether it is unsafe to run on older Windows 10 versions, and why my Laptop is lagging while it is above the minimum requirements?

I am providing my laptop specifications down below.

    Intel Pentium Gold 4415U - 2.30 GHz 2 core, 4 threads

    4 GB 2666 MHz RAM

    500 GB HDD

Default OS: Windows 10 Home 1809

    Stable Update : Windows 10 1903 / 1909

Intel HD 610 Graphics - with 2 GB shared system memory

*I checked it for virus and Malware, there is no presence of Malware or virus Tested by Windows Defender and Eset Internet Security

    :)

    Stuck in Windows 10 Upgrade

My computer seems to be stuck in a Windows 10 failed upgrade loop. I was running fine on a beta version of Windows 10, and then I came downstairs one morning to see it repeatedly booting, attempting to repair, then rebooting. The steps I've taken to diagnose are:

    • Attempting to boot off a USB drive (with all drives disabled in BIOS) - this fails at the point of the blue windows screen
    • Attempting to boot the machine itself and getting into "repair/safe mode" using F7
    • Looking at the BIOS for obvious failures (e.g. RAM that should be there is missing) - nothing obvious is wrong.

I am fairly certain the build version was 9926. For many months, the system would attempt to upgrade, and then say "it failed" for some reason and roll back.

    Suggestions for next steps?

  3. New FF - passwords

    Hi:

If that setting is already enabled, then I suggest as the next troubleshooting step might be Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode)):

Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode | Firefox Help

    • Please report back and let us know the outcome, as it will dictate the next steps.
    • Also: please tell us what AV/AM/firewall programs are you running on this system?

    Thanks,
    MM
