Windows 10: Issue when reinstalling Windows 10

I purchased a new ASUS desktop in September with Windows 10 pre-loaded. Yesterday, it started giving me the 0xc000021a error. I tried using all of the following recovery tools, to no avail:

• System Restore: Repeatedly failed out
• System Image Recovery: I don't have another image
• Startup repair: Didn't work and I had to disable the auto-repair due to how long it takes every time it tries
• Booting into safe mode (and other startup options): Still brings me to that error screen
• Command prompt: I tried several different commands, including chkdsk, /sfc scannow, and various bootrec commands. None of them did anything.
• Reset the PC: I tried both options and they both failed

I downloaded the ISO file onto a flash drive and went to reinstall Windows 10. I don't have any critical files or apps, so I'm okay losing them all. I am able to successfully boot from the USB and start the installation process using the "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)" option.


It performs the installation steps without any issue, and then tells me it needs to restart to finish. So far, so good. But when it actually restarts, it boots from the hard disk and gives me a BSOD saying:


The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

File: \Windows\System32\drivers\sdbus.sys

Error code: 0xc000007b


The file and code vary, but the general message is the same, and it's always an issue with a file in that folder. If I force it to boot from the USB again after that restart, it just takes me back to the installation dialog window.


I have no clue where to go from here. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

[Solved] Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

I noticed quite some time ago that KB3119142 (Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package) kept reinstalling itself for some reason. At least once daily. Sometimes up to several times a day. I just ignored it. It didn't seem to be doing any harm. And I figured they'd eventually fix it. Well...days turned into weeks, weeks into months, with no end to the problem in sight. It dragged on unsolved for at least the last few months. Literally reinstalling itself hundreds of(at least a hundred, felt like more) times in that period of time.

So I finally googled it a couple days ago. And just got around to fixing it today. Which appears to have worked. And it couldn't have been easier to do. I feel so stupid to have let it intimidate me for so long.*Oops!

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP
