Issue with selecting programs from taskbar

    Hi Everyone,

Honestly, this is driving me nuts, never seen this issue before.

When I have multiple programs running on my computer (Word, Excel, Chrome, and Microsoft Mail (I know Yucky, but Outlook doesn't work with my work's email servers yet...)) the computer will not place one program on top of another when I select one.

For example, say I am working on Word, and I want to bring up Excel. So I click on a currently running Excel from the task bar and word stays in front, excel has loaded behind it (I see the dropbox icon move) but I can only see and select the word file. I have to minimize word and then I can see and work on excel.
The same goes the opposite way, say I'm working in Excel with my Word program minimized. Let's say I want to go back to Word, I select Word from my task bar, and it comes up behind my currently active Excel. I have to minimize Excel and then I see my Word file.

Sometimes, if I click on word three times, it will come up, it's sporadic, so sporadic that I was under the assumption that it was some kind of virus/malware. I've run MalwareBytes Pro several times, as well as run it through Kaperskey, Spybot, and a few other free programs. Nothing came up.

I also called up Lenovo, well...let's just say I won't be buying Lenovo anymore. It's not entiiirely their tech support, the X240 has just been a miserable hardware experience. Horrible mousepad, harddrive has crashed twice, and flimsy (if you pick it up from one side, it BSODs and resets).

Won't purchase one again and wouldn't recommend the line, but that won't be for at least a year, does anyone have any feedback on solving this problem? or have they had this problem before? It seems minor, but it's like a rock in your shoe, after 8 hours....screw that rock get it out get it out!!

Let me know if anyone has any feedback, thanks.

    ~Johnny

Issue with selecting programs from taskbar

Hi Johnny and welcome to TenForums,

I think I may be able to help you with this, but before we move on to a possible solution make sure you take some precautionary steps first.

You're going to want to back up the registry, the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry key to be exact. To do that follow the steps below.

First, it's always a good idea to make a system restore point to be able to restore to, you can find instructions to do that here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-restore-point

How to back up the registry. (All the steps listed below can be found here.)

    • From the Start menu, in the search box, type regedit.exe, and then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • In Registry Editor, locate and right-click on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    • Click File > Export.
    • In the Export Registry File dialog box, select the location where you want to save the backup copy to, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name field.
    • Click Save.

OK! We should be ready to safely move on! (All the steps below can be found here.)

    • Click start and type regedit in the search bar and hit enter.
    • Navigate to HKey_Current User\Control Panel\Desktop
    • Check for ForegroundFlashCount on the right pane.
    • The default value should be 3. If it is not set correctly then modify it.

    Hope that works!

  5. Welcome to the forums JVeeOH5!

Well, simplest things first, as far as the one program opening behind another ............ you could just hit the Windows key and a directional arrow. Both would be open and visible i.e.
