Issue with USB ports turning off

    Hello,

I have an issue that started some time ago but I cannot find out what is causing this issue. When I first boot my PC, the USB devices will, after a short time, disconnect, then a few moments later they reconnect. This happens a few times in the first 10 minutes or so and then stops. When I boot a game, the same thing happens. After the first couple of times, it stops happening and I can play as normal.

I am not sure how to track the issue but I can say that I have been attempting to find a fix for some time. To date, I have switched my mouse and keyboard out, reinstalled Windows 10, checked the USB wasn't going to sleep with via power saving, I have checked the drivers with Driver Booster and then manually and others I cannot remember.

I have used Event Viewer recently to find out that I was getting DistributedCOM 10016 error followed by a Kernel-EventTracing 28. I have Googled these and taken the steps suggested in this https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-event-id-10016-distributedcom-error-event-log-dcomcnfg-permissions/ to fix the DistrobutedCOM error but it has not helped and I am still getting the same issue.

I was wearing headphones tonight and heard a static crackle just before the error occurred if this helps anyone.

I am running the latest Windows 10 Pro version 1803, the OS build is 17134.345

I am using an MSI Gaming 7 motherboard with an i7 4790K and 16GB of Corsair RAM. I also have a GTX980. Windows is installed on an Samsung SSD and I have three other HDD and an M2 SSD on the motherboard.

I have the latest drivers for all of my hardware and if anyone can help me to solve this problem I will be eternally grateful. My main issue is, I do not know how to see what is happening on the system when the error occurs. Is there a way to see a log of the USB being shut down so that I can find out by what?

    Thank you for looking.

Here are the errors I have found in full, they may not be relevant but they are logged everytime the USB devices shut off.

    USB ports

    Hi Frank,

Inserting and removing a USB device repeatedly may cause the USB port to stop responding. When the port is in this state, it no longer recognizes any USB device, and the USB device will not work.

Here are few things that you can do to resolve the issue:

Use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes. After your computer scans for hardware changes, it might recognize the USB device that is connected to the USB port so that you can use the device.

To scan for hardware changes, follow these steps:

    • Click Start, and then click Run.

Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, and then use the Start Search box.
    • Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.
    • In Device Manager, click your computer so that it is highlighted.
    • Click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
    • Check the USB device to see whether it is working.

Turn off Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    • In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
    • In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog box, click the Power Management tab. Uncheck the
Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
      box.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.

    USB Ports

    Hi Homer,

We'd like to ask a few questions to help us isolate this problem.

    • Have you tried connecting your device tracker to a different USB port on your computer?
    • If so, was it detected?
    • Did you receive any error messages?

To address this issue, we suggest that you follow the troubleshooting steps shared by Praveen Venogupal on this

    link
    .

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.
