Windows 10: Issue with Windows 10 Updates KB4551762 & KB4541335 Error Code 0x800f0922

Information:

Operating System: Windows 10

Edition: Windows 10 Home Single Language

Version: 1909

Installed On: 2019.10.26 which is date of last major version upgrade

Build: 18363.592



Issue:

Windows has released the following two updates:

KB4551762 dated 2020.03.12, which is Critical and

KB4541335 dated 2020.03.24 which is Optional

For the both of the above updates, Install Fails with Error Code 0x800f0922.



Methods Tried:

I have tried installing both updates using methods:

01. Windows Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update

02. Manual Update by downloading update tiles from Microsoft Update Catalogue

03. Manual Update through Powershell with Install-WindowsUpdate

In every case, the system starts to update, goes upto 100% and then restarts, and then displays message "update failed, undoing changes". On a checkup of Update History, Error Code 0x800f0922 is shown.



I tried using internet search google, bing for possible solutions, and tried the following solutions found not sure, whether those are valid or not:

01. Reinstalling .Net Framework through Windows Optional Features

02. sfc /scannow,

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth,

DISM/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:WindowsISO /LimitAccess WindowsISO downloaded from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

sfc /scannow

But the issue persists.



I even checked CBS.log, "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" which shows the following:

Startup: Failed to process advanced operation queue, startupPhase: 0. A rollback transaction will be created. [HRESULT = 0x800f0922 - CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED]

and

Where 2020.04.13 is last attempt at installing updates.



Apparently, the thing is, I, somehow for one reason or another, have to end up doing a Windows Clean Installation every second year.



Can this issue be resolved without doing a Windows in-place Upgrade or a Windows Clean Installation?

If the issue is still persisting, you can do a repair install of Windows 10 without affecting your files and apps:

1. Download and create your Windows 10 ISO by following the steps in this link:

2. Locate and right-click the ISO file, then click "Mount".

3. Go to File Explorer and open the virtual drive where the ISO is mounted. It's usually labeled "ESD-ISO".

4. Open setup.exe and follow the on-screen steps.

This repair process might take a while. Once it's completed, try installing the said updates again.

Windows Update Error 0x800f0922

I have a Dell 7710 with Win 10 Pro 1909 18363.657.

for the last few weeks the cumulative updates fail with the error 0x800f0922. Latest one was KB4541335.

Looking at the history KB440673 Failed on 3/12 (2) and KB4541335 Failed on 3/29.

I ran CHKDSK and sfc /scannow and found no errors.

I searched the web and cannot find a solution.

Any ideas?
