Issues booting the PC and shutting it down.

    Hello TenForums members!

I'm having some issues with my PC I have never had before. The computer is a personal rig I have personally worked on, but these last weeks some problems started appearing.

    Problem 1) {Had this problem for months, I think this problem also escalated to create problem 2}
I cannot "restart" my computer. Do I want to restart? I would have to shutdown and then start it up again.
When I press restart, it starts logging off, shutting down, and when my screen go blank (no signal, pc lights/fans = on) it just stays there for ever. Tried waiting once but after 4 hours I gave up.

Problem 2) {This problem arose since last week)
When I start my computer I get my BIOS screen. After the BIOS timer, the boot screen gets taken over by Windows 10 with it's loading circle.

My computer stays loading here for about 8-10 minutes and then it continues booting like normal.

I am willing to follow many steps to find out this problem!! I suspect maybe unfinished installations or my other HDD interfering with the initial boot?

    --

Also, could this problem be caused by a PSU failing? (My oldest pc component)
My windows is now on my main ssd (samsung evo 500gb) - I also have a ocz 250gb and western hdd 1tb which I had windows on previously (user files still on, no boot)

    :)

  2. PC shutting down and booting up strangely

Hi Michael. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Sleep issues are mainly governed by Display adapter which has problems with Windows Update lately. So let's troubleshoot that first:

Check for a newer Display driver on the PC or Display adapter Support Downloads webpage. While there check if there are other newer drivers to Update, including BIOS, Chipset, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all others. Compare to the one present installed
in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.. You can take your time until they are all updated.

There is a known issue of incorrect Display driver being pushed by Windows Update which requires rolling back the driver. Right click Start to open Device Manager, choose Display device, then Driver tab, then Roll back.

If there is no Roll Back or that doesn't help choose Update Driver on Display device Driver tab, then Browse Computer, then Let Me Pick to see a list of all previously installed Display drivers, work backwards trying each to find one that works.

If necessary you can also go to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update to look for the driver under Installed Updates and Uninstall it form link there. Then you can hide the driver so it isn't pushed again using the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

If none of those work try to System Restore to a point before the problem began:
    http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...
. Make sure System Restore is always enabled for C with plenty of disk space apportioned (5-10%) in its Configuration settings.

Next turn off Fast Startup at Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do > Change settings that are unavailable > uncheck Fast Startup.

Then complete the rest of the steps for troubleshooting Sleep issues:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Issues booting the PC and shutting it down.

    Hey guys,

I couldn't help my self and tried something on my mind. Opened event viewer and saw 1 particular error spamming over n over.
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation

It was my OCZ Octane, i went into bios, rearranged my new ssd to be first and windows boot manager to be 2nd, and now I had an option to choose one of my older installations, something I couldnt untill now. Some progress was made, 4 attempts later I got into windows and problem 2 is now fixed.

    I still have problem 1)!!
