  1. Issues installing windows 10 to 970 NVMe EVO

I recently purchased a new Samsung SSD 1TB 970 EVO NVMe M.2 2280 from newegg along with an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus MB. I would like to clean install windows 10 or clone windows 10 to boot from the SSD, but am unable.

I have been reading several posts on this website and other sites to troubleshoot the issue for the past month. I will attempt to list all steps/settings I have tried: I made sure to flash my bios to the latest version, I installed all the latest MSI motherboard drivers, installed all the latest Samsung SSD drivers, formatted the SSD as a GPT drive, removed all SSD volumes & partitions, and used diskpart to clean the SSD. I also adjusted my bios to UEFI Enabled/Legacy Disabled, verified Secure/Fast boot is Disabled, and verified that the USB and SSD are in the correct boot order, and are both recognized and shown correctly with the [UEFI] prefix. I verified and reset the SSD within the M.2 slot that my MB manual recommends, and verified several times that all disk dives/peripherals are disconnected during the install. Also, all other devices have been verified as working properly, including windows on the original HDD with the new MB. All parts are compatible with each other, and my MB has full NVMe M.2 support and does not require an adapter.

My existing HDD is running windows 10 and is set up as an MBR drive. I bought windows 8.1 so I have the install DVD and key, but I previously got the free upgrade to windows 10. Whether I install 8.1 or 10 to the new SSD does not matter to me, but since the SSD must be GPT, I believe that mean I can not use the 8.1 DVD for install, and instead must either clone my current drive or create a bootable USB with windows 10. I have tried both of these things and will detail my issues now.

For clean install, first I tried using the 8.1 DVD with default bios options (legacy CSM), which obviously did not work. That was a month ago and lead me down the path I am currently on. To create a bootable USB with windows 10, I have tried first using windows media creation and when that didnt work, I tried using Rufus with UEFI/GPT/FAT32 options selected. During clean install, I am shown a black screen after the first restart with an error message that reads "Error 0xc0000428 the digital signature could not be verified", along with several repair options which do not work.

For data migration, I first tried using the samsung migration tool, but I get to 99% then blue screen error shutdown and freeze on splash screen during restart. I then tried aomei based on advice from IT at my work. I found out that aomei does not support cloning from MBR drive to a GPT drive unless you buy the professional version. Samsung support told me that the SSD must be installed as GPT, so I begas looking into converting my current drive to GPT with mbr2gpt command prompts. Incredibly, I am unable to do this because it seems my windows RE image backup is apparently corrupt or missing after installing the HDD to my new MB (which has bumped me down a completely new rabbit-hole of command prompts and advice blogs that I would rather not learn). So this is where I am currently at... trying to fix my current soon-to-be-garbage HDD in order to get my shiny new SSD up and running.

Last thing to mention, after each install or migration attempt, I have to wipe the SSD drive using the built-in bios tool to get it to be recognized in bios or windows diskpart/disk management. However, once I do this, I have no issues with it showing up, and the Samsung Magician tool I downloaded also recognizes the drive and shows the condition as "Good" and the firmware version as "Latest."

I am wondering if this is just an issue with the free windows 10 version. Has anyone else installed the free windows 10 upgrade onto an SSD (either clean or migrated)? I have questions posted and emailed to samsung as well... could this be a bad SSD requiring an RMA? Any other suggestions or troubleshooting tips?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

    :)

  2. Problem installing Win 10 on 970 Evo Samsung

    Hi,

I would like your help for a problem i am facing. I bought a MSI B350 PC MATE motherboard (7A36-003R) and I wanted to build a new pc but when i try to install Windows 10 x64 on Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 at the step where I select the M.2 disk to install
    it popups a message saying:

"Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have tried every possible combination on the BIOS/UEFI but every time i get the same error. I have left only the SSD and remove every other SATA connection with no luck. The installation is made from USB which is made with Rufus.
Is it any configuration that i am missing?
Every suggestion would be very helpful.

  3. How to regain all unallocated space on my New Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe drive?

    Hello Everyone,

I just now installed a new Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB SSD drive to my system, and cloned all the old information from my old 256GB M.2 SSD to this new one. All went good and my system and Bios sees the New Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB
SSD and it boots to it and runs just Great.

However.. my new Drive is only using the first 250GB like the old drive was. My new drive has 227.30GB of Unallocated space on it.

How can I us all of the New drive??... Is there a Free utility or Paid or can this simple be done in Windows 10 that will allow me to move the unused "unallocated" portion so I can Us my whole 500GB drive??... I tried both EaseUS and Macrium
    Free ware with no Luck.

I'm running the newest drivers and Windows 10 1809 x64. And as you can probably tell I'm new to this and would GREATLY appreciate a step by step on how to do this.

Thank-You for your Help in Advance.
