Windows 10: Issues with Microsoft account private or work/school since Azure free sign up

Hi,

I´ve got issues with my personal/private Microsoft account like not being able to use personal MS Teams as it always asks me for my account and after login it ask for private or work/business account. None of these two works:

- private says that "somebody already managed Teams for my organization. I should ask my admin." sorry for bad translation

- work/school says sometime user not found error or register for teams / use other account

Personal MS Teams runs fine on my Android smartphone with the mobile app.

In general this account problem started after I signed up on azure portal for free with my personal/private Microsoft account as I wanted to do some Azure training. I´d better taken a different account.

Is it possible to delete the Azure stuff assigned to my account? I have never started any subscriptions etc. never really used the Azure stuff. Only one login to Azure free crashed my private account.

Deleting my Microsoft account is not an option as I have a multi year Microsoft/Office 365 subscription running and use my OneDrive frequently. Also my MCP ID with my Microsoft certifications is linked to this account.

Adding/removing/changing email addresses to my MS account doesn´t help either.

If there´s no way to solve it in this forum it would be great if you could let me know whom I could contact to get this sorted out.

Sign-in and sync with work or school accounts in Microsoft Edge builds

A top piece of feedback we’ve heard from Microsoft Edge Insiders is that you want to be able to roam your settings and browsing data across your work or school accounts in Microsoft Edge. Today, we’re excited to announce that Azure Active Directory work and school accounts now support sign-in and sync in the latest Canary, Dev, and Beta channel preview builds of Microsoft Edge.

By signing in with a work or school account, you will unlock two great experiences: your settings will sync across devices, and you’ll enjoy fewer sign-in prompts thanks to single sign-on (Web SSO).

Personalized experiences across devices

When signed in with an organizational account on any preview channel, Microsoft Edge is able to sync your browser data across all your devices that are signed in with the same account. Today, your favorites, preferences, passwords, and form-fill data will sync; in future previews, we’ll expand this to support other attributes like your browsing history, installed extensions, and open tabs. You can control which available attributes to sync, once you enable the feature from the sync settings page. Sync makes the web a more personal, seamless experience across all devices—the less time you have to spend managing your experience, the more time you’ll have to get things done.

Single sign-on across work or school sites

Once you’ve signed in to your organizational account in Microsoft Edge, we’ll use those credentials to authenticate you to websites and services that support Web Single Sign-On. This helps keep you productive by cutting down on unnecessary sign-in prompts on the web. When you access web content which is authenticated with your signed in account, Microsoft Edge will simply sign you in to the website you’re trying to access.

To try this, just navigate to Office.com while signed into Edge with your work or school account. Notice that you didn’t need to sign in with your username and password—you are simply authenticated to the website and can access your content immediately. This also works on other web properties that recognize the organizational account you are signed in to.

How to sign in with your work or school account

To get started with an organizational account in Microsoft Edge, all you have to do is sign in and turn on sync. Just click the profile icon to the right of your address bar and click “Sign In” (if you’re already signed in with a personal account, you’ll have to “Add a profile” first and then sign into the new profile with your work or school account.)

At the sign-in prompt, select any of your existing work or school accounts (on Windows 10) or enter your email, phone, or Skype credentials into the sign-in field (on macOS or older versions of Windows) and sign in.

Once you’re signed in, follow the prompts asking if you want to sync your browsing data to enable sync. That’s it! To learn more about sync, check out our previous article on syncing in Microsoft Edge preview channels. You can always change your settings or disable sync at any time by clicking your profile icon and selecting “Manage profile settings.”

Convert online Microsoft Azure account to local account?

I set my desktop user account up accidentally using my Microsoft Azure AD account. I want to change it to a local account without losing my settings. Can this be done?

Unfortunately, you cannot switch an Azure AD account to a local or Microsoft account. You need to create a new user account first, make it an admin account, then disconnect from your organizational account, restart and sign in to new local account.

All software remains installed and intact but all user specific customizations and settings are lost, new local user starting from scratch with default settings.

The whole process step by step:

1.) Copy your personal data (documents, images etc.) from current Azure AD user profile folder to respective folders in C:\Users\Public

2.) In Settings > Accounts > Other people, add a new local user (see Option One in this tutorial) and change it's account type to Administrator (tutorial)

3.) Check that everything is correct, that you will see your Azure AD account under Work or school users (yellow highlight), and your new local admin account under Other people (blue highlight):

4.) Select Access work or school on left pane, select the connected Azure AD domain, click Disconnect:

5.) Click Yes:

6.) Click Disconnect:

7.) Enter the username and password for your new local admin account, click OK:

8.) Click Restart now:

9.) When back on desktop with your new local admin account, move personal data from Public folder and its subfolders you backed up in step 1 above to respective subfolders on new user profile folder. If the old Azure AD user profile folder is still present in Users folder, it can be deleted now.

That's it.
