Windows 10: It seems like my whole (and only) hard drive is RAW and my recovery USB has an error too.

I got a new motherboard and hard drive then tried to clone the old HDD to the new one. As soon as the download for the cloning software finished the web browser stopped responding and my PC crashed. I booted it back up and was given the BSOD with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE or something like that along with the error 0xc000000f on the blue recovery screen. I also can't access the troubleshoot options either on the HDD and USB.

I have already tried to rebuild the MBR but I cannot access my HDD and I used my USB in which I installed windows 10 from but then it got an error code 0xc0000098 with File:\Boot\BCD so it is stuck on the Recovery screen. I then used the command prompt with chkdsk and it said that my HDD is RAW


I really need some help, I've been attempting to fix this issue for almost 3 days and it feels like every time I take a step forward I move two steps back.

Recovery from failed hard drive

  Did you get any error messages while using the failed hard drive?

  When you say failed hard drive, are you referring to external hard drive or internal hard drive?

Hard drive to RAW and unknown disk

You have been given many suggestions - "Raw means its lost the parition you need to download specific parition recovery software" "You can use the free TestDisk Program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. " " live Linux Mint flash drive" and no doubt you will be confused which route you should take.

OK, let us go step by step and decide which way to go.

In all these cases you must always give full details of the HDD like whether it is an internal drive or external drive, manufacturer, model No, capacity, how old is your drive , when was the last time you were able to successfully access the drive and also any event after which it became RAW and inaccessible - like you pulled it out without using safe removal or there was a sudden power outage/surge when it was being used.

2. You said Minitool. What MiniTool? Power Data Recovery?? Partition Wizard??? Never mind. Do this as specified. Uninstall any MiniTool you had installed. Download , install and run MiniTool Partition Wizard Free 9.1 - yes only version 9.1. In later versions Partition Recovery is really not free *Biggrin -

Creating a Recovery Drive on USB flash Drive

Hi,

Since it didn't work using a USB, we suggest that you try to create a Recovery Drive on an external hard drive and check if it will work. Some times using higher storage device like external hard drive can help in utilizing the files.
