Items pinned to taskbar reset every time users log out

I am trying to create a system image for deployment in a small office from a clean installation of Windows 10 version 10.0.17763.

To create a default user layout, I've entered Audit mode using Control+Shift+F3 during initial setup. After finishing installing software and personalizing the desktop, I used sysprep with CopyProfile set to True in the answer file.

For the Start Menu layout, I used PowerShell to export the layout and then added the Taskbar layout to my xml file before importing the settings. This method worked fine for setting a default layout for all users without using Audit mode and sysprep to copy the profile, but now I'm running into a problem when combining that method with CopyProfile to set a default user configuration.

In my layout, I have pinned Internet Explorer, File Explorer, Outlook 2013, and Booking, a custom program for our business. After a new user is set up, we want them to be free to add or remove pinned items as needed. However, the problem we are running into with the new system image that any of those tiles that are unpinned are automatically re-pinned after the user is logged out.

Any newly pinned items remain after reboot, but those original 4 pinned tiles are added to the right of anything that was added. If they are just re-ordered and not removed, the pinned tiles remain in the same order after logging out.

Another odd thing that I've noticed is that the shortcuts for Outlook 2013 and Booking have been relabeled as "Outlook 2013 (2)" and "Booking (2)." No matter how many times we try unpinning those shortcuts from the taskbar, the number of the shortcut link is always (2), but I'm not sure where the 2nd copies of these shortcuts are stored on the computers.

    :)

  4. Items pinned to taskbar reset every time users log out

Is there a limit on pinned taskbar items?

You can only have up to 12 pinned items on any program.

What I suggest is making a folder with all the icons [RDP files] to the machines and pin it as a toolbar:

    1. Create a folder named Remote Desktop (can be any name)
    2. Right click on empty space on taskbar
    3. Select Toolbars
    4. Click New Toolbar
    5. Locate to the folder and select it

(I suggest you keep them more organized, however.)
