Windows 10: Itunes now in Microsoft Store for Windows 10

Discus and support Itunes now in Microsoft Store for Windows 10 in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; exactly the same Thanks. I note the Store iTunes app offers "in app purchases". Is this more irritating than the desktop version of iTunes? Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by reddice, Apr 4, 2018.

    Hi folks

    @Steve C
    @Dave44

    Not again wanting to be the "5th player" in a string quartet but didn't Apple recently either say or imply they were going to shut down iTunes and replace it with something else as they were getting creamed by Spotify etc. ITunes users would still be able to access their music but no new content would be added. Seems therefor idiotic of Ms to add this to the store - unless they are thinking of taking it over themselves --then instead of chaos it would become total chaos. !!

    Yes found the article -- downloads to be shut down in Mar 2019.

    Apple Is Shutting Down iTunes Music Downloads on March 31st, 2019, Sources Say

    well I never thought UK's "Brexit" would have that consequence !!!!-- can't say I liked itunes anyway -- still prefer getting content on to HDD in uncompressed FLAC format - HDD's cheap these days.

    Cheers

    I just installed the Store app version of iTunes which seems identical to the desktop program. The previous iTunes software was removed but the iTunes app left behind Apple Application Support. Is this needed?

    Not good to hear about the downloads. I am not into streaming stuff. So I don't go in for Apple Music. My preference is for iTunes match whereby I only pay approx £25 per year to have my entire music library available to my iOS devices for all 4000 songs I have in my iTunes library (mix of purchases from the store and cd uploads). Not being a radio listener or particulary into 'new' stuff I like to be able to purchase the odd song here and there on the very rare occassions I hear something new that I like. Even if iTunes keeps going it will be difficult for me to add anything new to the matched library unless I physically go out and buy and then upload a cd.

    It does make me worry that iTunes match is for the chop too. Seeing as Apple Music is a bit of a mess I don't want to transition to it. I can imagine the carnage if I did anyway, as it gets confused by all the music that was already matched and uploaded and then cludges it together with the Apple Music matching.

    EDIT

    Looked on apple forum and seems some users have lost ability to sync devices after transitioning from desktop app.

    I don't believe so - it is only an updater to check you have the latest version of whatever it may be.

    I run Windows on Macs and always uninstall everything except what is absolutely necessary which for me is the bootcamp.exe program to run the keyboard/trackpad which is only required because of the odd keyboard layout.

    Guys a question.
    Does the Store app support "App Store", like the 12.6.4.3 version, or has it removed it like the 12.7.x version?

    Hi there
    @Dave44

    Apple Music is a different Animal from iTunes-- that's what Apple are concentrating on in future.

    The iTunes bit is the part they really want to get shot of.

    I think also there's a swing back to people wanting to save music on their own devices as Internet / always on isn't always available or desirable.

    Sales of Vinyls have shot up and unbelievable even Cassette tapes -- if you want that retro music use minidisc - cassettes get chewed up horribly so why on earth people want to still use those wretched things !!!

    I'm Not saying streams like Spotify aren't good or anything but there's quite a few times you want to download some specific decent music to a device and go out say dog walking in an area without Wi-Fi available or having to fiddle around with dynamic playlists from Spotify etc.

    O.T here but curious :

    BTW is it legal where you are to ride a bicycle listening to music through headphones etc -- seems dangerous to me but last time I was in London of all places (Think I'd rather ride a Bike in central Paris of all places than London !!) I saw loads of people riding Bikes wearing headphones -- some even were riding with one hand and using a mobile phone in the other -- not sure how many people get killed on Bikes in London but as a pedestrian I've nearly had to knock a few people off their Bikes because they were so absorbed in their music they forgot about other road users !!!

    Cheers

  9. I work in London. Don't get me started on the cyclists! I'm not sure some of them realise they are bound by the same traffic laws as cars and that you must stop at a red light. I'll stick to my own two feet to get me around where feasible - I can trust those!!!!

    I agree with you. I prefer to be able to buy and download music for offline listening. I don't think Apple appreciates the internet isn't everywhere. There are plenty of cellular blackspots in London and some people still live in areas with dial up speeds for internet. Plus streaming caches all over the place over your devices and doesn't necessarily clean up after itself

    I don't get the whole streaming/subscription stuff anyway. How can you have a music chart based on streaming? There must be lots of accidental streams going on. How do they know how much to pay which artist? At least with a download that's a very obvious thing to measure and work out who gets paid what and how much.

    I would be interested if it was available for Windows Phone. So far, it does not seem to be. I thought the idea of these "Universal" apps was that they would run on ANY Windows 10 device.

    The iTunes app downloaded from the Windows Store is functionally the same as the one downloaded from Apple. The only difference is that the Windows Store version is compatible with Win 10 S devices. Couldn't find any info about 10 Lean.

    10 Lean is still leaked unofficial info. As far as I know, no official announcement on it.

    I though UK had better internet? They always pick on the USA for poor internet.

  15. Where I live it’s pretty good. 50mbits down, 12 up. But there are so many iffy areas not connected by fibre. Still reliant on copper connections and lucky to go above a couple mbits. BT rule the roost and despite having so much cash refuse to invest and roll out the fibre country wide. Greedy corporation that don’t really care about their product (bit like Apple and to a slightly lesser degree MS). I think Scandinavia is the place to be for great internet speed!
