Windows 10: Japanese IME

Sorry if this is the wrong category, it was unclear where this would be appropriate.

Hi! I know this might be a long shot, but I'm trying desperately to get the Japanese IME to work on Windows so I can type hiragana. I have the language pack installed and I can switch between US and Japanese on my little taskbar thing but no matter what I do romaji does not magically become hiragana as it should. It's driving me crazy and I find it very discouraging!

I have been scouring every corner of the internet for answers. Most threads I find online are at least one or two years old and never fix. One thing I do tend to notice though is that in their screen shots there's actually two related things on the right side their taskbar: there's the "ENG" that switches to a fancy "J" for Japanese but then immediately to its left there's a second icon that is either and "A" or "". The latter is NOT on my taskbar, and I have looked everywhere for a way to find out why.

Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks for reading, at the very least!

1. Have you recently made any changes on the device?
   
2. What is the version of Windows 10 that you are using?
   
   You may try the below suggested steps.
   

Method 1. Remove the language pack

Step 1. Select the Start button, go to
Settings > Time & Language > Region & language.

Step 2. Select the preferred language pack > Click on Remove.

Method 2: Re-adding the Language pack

Step 1. Select the Start button, go to
Settings > Time & Language > Region & language.

Step 2: Click on Add a Language >Select the
Language (Japanese).

Step 3: Click on Set as default.
The default language will be the first language in your language list.

Step 4: If you click on Options button, you will see the following panel open up. Here you can download
Language packs and add Keyboards and check the working of Japanese IME.

Method 3: Restore from a System restore point

You may refer the section
Restore from a System restore point,
if the method 1 fails.
