Japanese input overwriting itself/erasing text as I write

Having an extremely infuriating issue that is making my work impossible. I usually use Google Japanese Input but the issue occurs on the built-in Windows IME. When I type a word for example , before I get the chance to convert the hiragana into Kanji I'll get three characters into the word, the kanji input box will pop up and the next character I type will erase/overwrite all the characters I have previously written. I haven't even got to the end of the word yet. I've tried turning some settings on and off like realtime conversion realtime conversion my ****... and it's not helping. It now takes me forever to write even a simple sentence because what I type undoes itself constantly, it's luck of the draw if I manage to get to the end of a word. Any ideas on how to address this issue???

    :)

  2. Windows 10 IME Japanese stuck on romaji (直接) won't toggle to other inputs

    Hi Marilou,

Thanks for the link, but it refers to a problem with writing with the Japanese IME in Word.

My problem is more general/basic. I cannot even select the japanese inputs other than the romaji input (which is the same as the English keyboard). So whatever program I am trying to write in, the text is input with English characters, rather than Japanese
    characters.

Switching Japanese Windows with English menus

Yes, I do mean those keys. I tried just switching to Japanese keyboard, as you suggested, but those keys didn't work. Also, the selection key is normally the spacebar in Japan but I could only get IME to work with the Tab key (for those who aren't familiar with Japanese typing: you type in Roman characters, then press a selection key and it steps you through a list of options for the word you are typing in Japanese characters). Did you get the special keys to work as they do in native Japanese mode?

It may well be that I was missing something, although I did try every option I could think of. In any event, as I said, I gave in and now have Japanese Windows running with English menus and everything seems to be working perfectly.
    Thanks,

    Mike
