Windows 10: Java not installing & errors with SFC & DISM

Hi,

I have 2 problems that might be related – Java not installing & errors with SFC & DISM.

I have windows 10/64 Pro. Java 8.0.40 was installed. When I got the out of date message I uninstalled it from control panel however the current version jre-8u73 32 bit or 64 bit will not install. Nothing happens when double clicking the offline installation. No errors. I am administrator of the PC. The online installation also does not run. Nothing happens on the verify option since uninstalling the earlier version. Usually a pop-up would confirm Java is not installed. I’ve downloaded it multiple times and the download file does not seem corrupt. In my C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java there are folders of earlier versions. Some of these folders are empty. There is also C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\Oracle\Java folder which is empty. I noticed JRERunOnce.exe in C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java and that runs and installs V1.7.0.65. I think upgrading Java 8.0.40 to more recent version has only been a problem since accepting the auto-update from Win 8.1 to Win V10. I have also read in another post that someone overcame the unable to install java run time problem by installing the full java development kit and then uninstalling the development components however that also would not run on my PC.

There is no $windows.~bt file not on my c: drive. Im not sure if it cleaned itself up after the grace upgrade period. November 2015 update was applied.


I disabled virus scanning, firewall which haven’t helped me install the current version of Java. UAC is off. I’m administrator of the PC. I’ve tried changing compatibility settings. None of these have made any difference.

In trying to resolve the problem of Java, ive run sfc /scannow & DISM. SFC /Scannow give hundreds of errors like this:

Is it possible to do a Windows repair using DISM and a full Windows 10 iso download? If so, what would be the commands please?

After I install the "Theme from Internet" (Screensaver is disabled) PC & Notebook lost the "Lock Screen" previously worked with "standard" a screensaver

Okay, I ran SFC and it found some errors. I tried running DISM and it gave me error 87.
