Windows 10: Just updated - now cannot login

Just over an hour ago, I let my desktop update and restart. When the login screen came up, I put my PIN in as usual and it said the password was incorrect. I then noticed it was asking for my password and not my PIN so I typed that in. Same message after a few tries and using the virtual keyboard.


I then reset my password using my mobile and tried again. I did this a few times before realising the globe in the bottom right of the screen has the circle with aline through it. I've now tried restarting and resetting my modem. No joy. I checked other devices on my local network another pc, a PlayStation wired and a tablet on WiFi and they're all working fine.


I can't log in to safe mode of do a system restore etc as it's not taking my password.


Any ideas?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to select the appropriate language in login screen at the bottom right corner and check if it helps.

Steps 2: Use On-screen keyboard in the login screen to login and check if it helps.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

OSK PIN login on non-touch device

I suggest you to create a PIN for your device and try the on screen keyboard to login to the same.

You may follow the steps below to create PIN protection for your device.

  Go to Settings and select account.
  
• 
  Click on sign in option and Go to PIN option.
  
• 
  Now click on Add and set PIN for login.
  

You can use the same PIN to login to your device using the on screen Keyboard from ease of access option and verify the result.
