Windows 10: KB 3176938 fails to download

Updated to Windows 10 Home 64-bit version 1607 (Build 14393.0) through ISO file downloaded from Microsoft site. Subsequently, Windows Update was showing following updates as available : KB 3189031, KB 3176936 & KB 3176938. While downloading the same, the Wi-Fi connection was disrupted. The ASUS laptop was restarted with Advanced Restart Option. The above three updates & update for Windows defender were offered. While downloading the updates Update for Windows defender, KB 3189031 & KB 3176936 downloaded, but the download progress is struck up at 45% for ages. I've checked my Network Download speed, which is about 2Mbps.

Let's try the below methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1: Perform a clean boot and check if the issue persists.

to disable all non-Microsoft services consult the article called Clean Boot.

Note: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run

Method 2: I also suggest you to perform a
SFC scan (System file checker) scan.

KB 3176938 fails to download

I have a lenovo G410.

I upgraded to win 10 from win 8.1, version now is 1511 (OS Build 10586.633)

win 10 now automatically update to 1607, every other day, which stalls the notebook (black screen of death, logo etc)

I have to use system recovery to regain use of notebook, EVERY OTHER DAY!!



The latest fiasco finally came up with a cryptic "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 Error 0x80240017"

When i click on "retry", it says "systemdevice is up to date".

But winver stillshows ver 1511.

Followed windows update error: 0x80240017 to troubleshoot, but "couldn't identify the problem"

Question: Lenovo recommends installing KB3176938. Is this before or after the anniversay update (which never worked)?

If before, where do I get it (not in list of updates).

If after, it's dead loop as 1607 never gets installed.

Maybe MS should send message to all users who have so far failed to upgrade on what needs to be done.

One thing to try is: command prompt(Admin) and run these two commands one after the other.

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits

Then delete all files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and reboot your computer.
Go back into windows update and try again.
