Subject update received on 8 March but failed to install. After, when checking for updates it is not available/listed.

However, when I google KB3176936 it seems to be originally issued o/a Aug 16. Again, my system is current per update check.

Any ideas on the cause ? Thanks !

    :)

    Hi Torre.

You can view your update history and see what the last cumulative update you have. You very well have a newer one so this older one is not required.

Here is a list of cumulative updates.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...update-history

I believe the latest two are only available for download if you go and get them from the catalog. Who knows, maybe the latest will be released March 14, 2017.

    That is likely.

However, it is strange that KB3176936 was initially issued in Aug '16. As stated, during a normal manual check for updates, it was listed and failed to install on 8 Mar. Subsequent checks indicate my system is current.

    Thanks for the reply.

  6. Hi there,
I'm very glad I found this thread, as I had the very same problem two days ago. I was checking for updates (to see if the Creator's Update was already available *Smile ), and suddenly, KB3176936 appeared in the list. At that point, I didn't even realize that this update was released more than half a year ago, so I let it download and install. I didn't watch the entire update procedure, when I came back to my PC, the Windows Update window showed no updates were available, the update did not appear in the installed updates and wasn't found again when searching for updates.
I checked the Installation log in the event viewer, which says
(I think "Bereitgestellt" is called "staged" in English).

Also, the downloaded update resides in %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\downloads

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the update package from the Microsoft update catalog. To my own surprise, the update was installed manually without problems and is now also listed among the installed updates. I have no idea what it actually installed or changed, as I didn't even have to reboot my PC. *Confused
