Windows 10: (KB3210721) failed to install 6 times now

The latest Windows 10 update KB 3210721 will not install on my PC. It configures up to 100% then says it can't complete the updates and removes them. This has happened 6 times now and is getting tedious. I have even disabled my antivirus but with no success. Please advise.

KB 3210721 will not install on my PC

KB3210721 will not install on my PC. I have tried 7 times now and it configures up to 100% then says it can't complete the updates and removes them again. All this takes around 15 minutes each time I switch my PC on. It's getting pretty tedious.

Type troubleshooting in the Cortana search bar, troubleshooting appears at top.
Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click.
Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”.
Should run clean. If not run again.

 

Whenever you try two or more times without success, your next step should be to the Microsoft Update Catalog, where you can download self-installing updates instead of using Windows Update to get that stuff. KB3210721 is indeed available there, as you will see on this search results page for that KB article. Caledon Ken's description of the Update Troubleshooter is spot on, but this kind of thing happens often enough (to me, at least, with 8 machines to take care of) that I've learned this as a preferable strategy for dealing with occasional and item-specific update problems. Caledon Ken's approach, however, is exactly the right one to use when WU won't work at all.

One thing I would add, and I could be wrong again, (my wife tells me that a lot) is that you should stop the Windows Update service prior to manually installing. @EdTittel, do you know if this is indeed a requirement?

 

Shoot I've done it at least a dozen times on various PCs without ever stopping the Windows Update service. Never bitten me on the hindquarters yet. Seems to me if you reserve this kind of thing for situations where WU can't or won't download or install something, chances for collision are pretty slim. That said, it does make sense to do this to avoid that possibility. I'm living proof, in this case, that those fools who rush in where Angels fear to tread don't always get squashed for their temerity! *Party

I've done this several times, but just cant understand what they mean by this issue.
" Potential issues that were checked
Default Windows Update data locations have changed Issues not present
Potential Windows Update Database error detected None Issues not present "
Is there a way to fix this problem?

 

I've tried everything here, and more. Every time BSOD "Page fault in non-paged area".
Mine is a 32-bit Windows 10, on a Samsung EVO 850 SSD.

Is yours also 32-bit?

For your issue I believe it is just telling you it does not see Potential Issues.

For both posters. Go back to post #3 from Ed. Download the update from the catalog. Get the right bitness for your system (32 or 64). It senses machine and provides the update. Then issue these two commands from Command Prompt(admin)

Net stop wuauserv
Net stop bits

Start the the install. It takes a long time. Reboot, it also takes a long time. Saintnick, if yours fails again on BSOD follow the directions to post under the BSOD section of the forum. They should be able to tell you what the cause is and then you can move forward.
