Windows 10: KB4038788 Would Not Install

KB4038788 would not download nor install on my Asus portable. After trying many fixes, clean hard drive, trying to stop wuauserv, download the KB and manually install I finally was able to download and install after the following.
Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter which sowed a problem with Service Registration Missing or Corrupt. Troubleshooter said it was Fixed - not really.
With this problem in mind an internet search provided me with the MS page for Windows 10 Service Registration is Missing or Corrupt. That page has 2 Methods. I used Method one and it worked. Using services.msc reset Windows Update Service to Automatic and start it (mine was Manual & was started) then reset Background Intelligent Transfer Service to Automatic and start it (mine was Manual and stopped) then reset Cryptographic Service to Automatic and start it (mine was Automatic and started).
My computer then downloaded the KB and installed it normally.

Video TDR Failure since Windows 10 Update

llllo_olllll My computer had yet to install the Creator's Update from last year, so I finally did it manually and I started having this problem
when it would wake up from sleep. I thought it was the Creator's Update, but in reality this KB4040724 was the culprit. I uninstalled it and I am now fully functional! I did not have KB4038788 installed on my system. I have a system with HD 4550 card as well
as on-board HD 3300 graphics - both of which suffered from the problem. I do also have dual monitors as you suggested.

Follow up note - KB4038788 was installed the next day along with cumulative update KB4041676. I uninstalled KB4041676 which did not fix the problem. Uninstalling that update uncovered the ability to see KB4038788. I uninstalled KB4038788 which fixed the
BSOD waking up from sleep again. Running the show/hide updates utility showed only KB4041676, so I chose to hide that update. Running the utility again did not uncover KB4038788 to hide, so I left this as is.
