    KB4052623 Defender platform update inconsistency, Version 4.18.2008.4 not in MS Catalog.


    On 8/12/2020 I noticed that some machines with windows x64 Pro V 2004 Build 19041.450 got an update for Defender antimalware platform KB4052623 while other machines did not.

    Why the discrepancy ? And why cannot I find the latest version in the MS catalog which only shows platform 4.18.2007.8 ?


    The latest update I got in 3 different machines show 4.18.2008.4, why is this update only showing in some machines and not others which are left with version 4.18.2007.8 ?

    Could you explain how these updates are distributed and why they are inconsistent in machines with the same windows builds ?

    Windows update KB4052623 (Version 14.18.2001.10) did not install

    Today Windows updated except Update for Microsoft Defender antimalware platform KB4052623 (Version 14.18.2001.10).

    What I am suppose to do? Is it OK if I do nothing further or I got to re-install KB4052623 if, so then how?

    Your valuable suggestion is needed.

    Windows Defender services stop, Platform folder EMPTY, updates KB4052623 and KB2267602 give error 0x80070643

    I cannot install Windows Defender Platform update KB4052623 and another package KB2267602. After downloading, I get the error 0x80070643.

    I tried everything from THIS thread, as well as all the common techniques (restart etc). I tried wureset from
    wureset.com, and also the Windows Update MiniTool. I tried downloading KB4052623 from the Microsoft Update Catalog, and since it gives no indication about which of the 3 files is suitable for me, I tried all three. One said it is not for my platform, the other
    two did not do anything.

    After starting Windows, 3 out of the 4 Windows Defender services are running. "Sense" is not running, and I cannot start it. In the Services manager, I can see that the WdNisSvc and Sense are set to Manual, and I cannot change them (even with Administrator
    rights). Then after a few minutes (or if I try to install the Platform update) both WdNisSvc and WinDefend processes stop, and the Windows Defender icon gives a red cross. It is impossible to restart, clicking on the button does nothing.

    What's the most interesting is that I have the same problem on a laptop and a PC. I installed Win10 on them 1-2 months ago, and they all started doing this after a few weeks. The Windows Defender "sample" updates install just fine, only the platform updates
    fail. I checked and the "Platform" folder is EMPTY on both computers (I heard people complaining about 50GB of files there, mine has none).

    What's the ideal setting for those 4 services and how can I change them? How can I manually install these updates? How can I repair just the installation of Windows Defender and not the whole OS?
