  1. KB4100347

Does installing KB4100347 make any permanent changes in a PC that remain when the update is uninstalled or the HDD is wiped and W10 1803 is re installed? My HDD is at 100% activity nearly all the time with only 1-2% CPU? This renders the PC slow and unusable. I did a clean install of W10 1803 from USB on this PC when it was first released without any issues or system changes etc but repeating the process as used before, remove all partitions, recreate them then install 1803 kills the PC when downloading the updates. CHKDSK does not find any HDD errors. I have also noticed that KB4100347 does not download now when I check for updates.

    :)

Do I need KB4100347 for my processor?

My laptop has tried to do

    2018-07 Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4100347)

and failed twice this month.( All the other windows/adobe updates have installed properly)

I have run the troubleshooter and it says everything is fine but when I check the update history there is no KB4100347 listed.

According to various sources on the internet this is supposed to be another security patch for intel processors to stop a vulnerability being exploited.

    so I have 2 questions:

    1. Will it keep trying to do this update? If so is it requiring another update first (I have not missed any cumulative updates since 1803 was installed)?

    2. Is it a problem if my computer can't get this update? (it has an older N3060) perhaps only some cpu types need it?

    Any helpful opinions/official guidance welcome KB4100347 :)

    problems with Spectre update KB4100347

So Windows Update downloaded the Spectre patch, KB4100347, earlier this week -- and it seriously screwed up my processor speeds. I've got an i7-6950, overclocked to 4250 on the front five cores and 4375 on the back five -- the first screenshot attached
shows the proper reading in HWMonitor.

    KB4100347 [IMG]

After the patch, even though the overclocking settings in my BIOS haven't changed, everything's screwed up -- all the cores are clocked to 4375, except random ones (it changes depending on reboot) that are massively downgraded. In addition, the update breaks
Intel Turbo Boost Max, which does not boot, shows up as not installed in the device manager, and which will not reinstall or start (there's an error message saying there's a problem and a BIOS setting might need to be changed.

So I know an update like this is needed because of Spectre; but I also know that my processor number is not actually among those listed in

    the knowledge base article
. So is Windows downloading this update incorrectly? Is there another one that will actually work correctly with my processor? Is there something I have to do in the BIOS before I install this update? That's a problem because
Asus still hasn't released anything but a beta BIOS for my board. I currently have my computer rolled back and KB4100347 blocked, but that seems like a temporary fix given the serious nature of Spectre. Any advice would be welcome.

    KB4100347

KB4100347 caueses infinate autorepair loop on XeonE5-2690 on x79 booting from NVMe

Lost my OS and Apps drive this week due to this update earlier this week (short of having another system that will read NVMe there is no way to read data off of an NVMe drive. I only have ONE system that will do it and it's a brick because of the update.)

Borrowed a friends system and got as much off of the drive as permissions would allow, then did clean 1803 install from USB and JUST the NVMe installed.

    • Initial install was fine
    • Initial driver update was fine
    • Right after KB4100347 installed DEAD AGAIN.
This update was not tested on a system that it's listed as being built for, so it needs to be removed as an update from incompatible systems or Intel/Microsoft needs to fix the patch OR I need a way to block the patch so I can continue to get other updates.

The options of useless system or insecure system are not acceptable.
