Windows 10: KB4457128 update will not install

HI,


Windows 10, 64 Bit will not install update: 2018-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4464218)


The update downloads ok, but fails to install. I have tried manual download, but still fails.


KB4456655 is already installed.


I have run the Windows download diagnostic tool, still to no avail.


Can anyone advise?

Windows won't start after KB4457128 install - block this update?

Windows 10 Home 1803 wouldn't start after the 9/12 patches.

I was able to get Windows back using the prior System Restore Point. Once I got Windows running again I got the 0xc000021a error for MSASCuil.exe (part of Windows Defender). I'm running sfc /scannow to repair it.

Windows Update in Settings showed several patches installed successfully on 9/12, but KB4457128 was not completely installed. (This patch installed without issue on my Windows 10 Pro 1803).

I used the Windows Hide/Show tool (KB3073930) to hide KB4457128 to prevent reinstallation of this problematic patch, but it is still listed on the Windows Update page in Settings.

Questions

• Is there a way to install this update on this Windows Home 1803 system without trashing Windows?
• Failing that, is there a way to prevent this update from re-installing, given that the Hide update tool didn't work?

I've already set a metered connection and throttled the available bandwidth. I can shut off the Windows Update service, but I don't want to disable all future updates, just this one that kills Windows.

 

A little quirk that happened regarding KB4457128

My wife's laptop did it yesterday, the 14th, KB4457128, installed successfully for a second time, having successfully installed on the 12th.

I think when a check for updates is made, a log of successfully installed updates is matched against available updates, to determine those updates that need downloading and installing. That's certainly the way it was
done when I was writing software.

I can only presume that KB4457128 is not adding an entry to this log after successfully installing, hence the re-run, even
though it does make an entry in the 'history page' and the Windows Update Page does say that there are no updates.

It doesn't appear to have done any harm. Must watch and see if it occurs again or if it is a 'one off'.

NOTE:

I just checked the Microsoft page for KB4457128 and found at the bottom:

'Important When installing the servicing stack update (SSU) KB4456655 and
the latest cumulative update (LCU) (KB4457128) from the Microsoft Update Catalog, install the SSU first to mitigate potential issues while installing the LCU.'

Checking the history page it reads:

KB4457128 (LCU) on the 12th,

KB4456655 (SSU) on the 12th,

KB4457128 (LCU) on the 13th

First two in the wrong order, second two correct order, perhaps that is the reason for the installation of KB4457128 twice.

 

Insurgency wont install and run for me....

I have played and have fully updated CS and Half life 2....
I am using the newest client and installed the SDK.

I am completely blown away, if i click the desktop icon it starts the sdk and then closes, and it doesn't show up in my game list...

First mod attempt install here, followed the directions step by step on the mods website...

Any ideas?
