Windows 10: KB4512501 Causes Problems with VB3 Programs on 32-bit edition of Windows.

Our company has a legacy application written in VB3 that runs on 32-bit editions of Windows. After installing KB4512501 , our application crashes with the message "General Protection Fault in module VBRUN300.DLL". Uninstalling KB4512501 fixes this problem.


I have tried installing the next Windows update, KB4512509 and I still receive the same error.


Can Microsoft please look into this issue, as there are likely many users that still run legacy VB3 applications. Thank you.

A. After uninstall, you need to block the update otherwise it will reinstall again.

Microsoft has provided a tool Show/Hide Updates tool to block the update

Download the tool from below link

When you run this troubleshooter, it will search for available updates and list them

Select the update which you want to hide. Click Next and follow on-screen directions

B. You should report this to Microsoft so that Microsoft developers should look into this to consider this for a fix.

Thinking about moving onto Win7 64 Bit

Yeah, there is really not issues running 32-bit programs in 64-bit Windows(7 or Vista).

The general rule is that the OS will run programs from one step back without issue. So 32-bit Windows can run 16-bit programs without issue, and 64-bit Windows can run 32-bit programs without issue but not 16-bit.

The 16-bit issue has caused me a problem here or there for some really really old programs/games. Even if the game was 32-bit, sometimes the installer would be 16-bit, so I couldn't get it installed using traditional methods.

But generally if you are using anything from the past decade, you are fine.
